We are currently seeking a full-time counselor to provide coverage at the Hays State Prison located in Trion, GA. Qualified candidates must be licensed in the state of Georgia as either an LPC or LCSW. This position is is an ideal way to gain further experience in mental health while working with a challenging yet rewarding population.

Position Overview


Provides mental health case management services and consults with multidisciplinary mental heath team in providing comprehensive mental health care to include linking clients with internal/external services, providing advocacy, as well as group and individual therapy.  The incumbent functions as advanced psychiatric social services specialist providing administrative, consultative and supervisory functions. The incumbent performs highly technical work under professional supervision involving the diagnosis, and evaluation.  Incumbent administers various psychological examinations, analyzes and interprets the results, and discusses findings with appropriate staff, and develops appropriate treatment plans.

Requirements Masters level degree in a Mental Health related discipline.
Licensure in GA as an LPC or LCSW
One (1) year experience in providing comprehensive counseling services, preferably in a correctional environment
A specialized knowledge of, and an ability to effectively apply, concepts, principles and methods underlying relevant branches of psychology (e.g., social, clinical, developmental, neurological, and psychopathology) to include an ability to apply the principles and methods of psychometrics, statistics and scaling methods.
Knowledge of interviewing techniques and practices to include principles and practices of individual and group counseling techniques and theories.   
Knowledge of laws, rules, regulations and guidelines for the care, treatment, and rights of mentally ill inmates.
A specialized knowledge of written case notes in compliance with health care standards.
Adherence to departmental policies and procedures and all applicable State and Federal laws relative to corrections.
The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, with a specialized knowledge of basic street slang and security threat groups.
