Assume a leadership role in the planning, development, and implementation of all of Melmark’s marketing strategies, marketing communications and internal/external outreach activities. Works with Melmark’s administrative and program leadership, Board of Directors, staff, families, donors and external media to advance Melmark’s visibility and marketing goals. Directs the efforts of the marketing and communications staff and supports Melmark’s strategic planning and outreach initiatives. In coordination with the Executive Director of Marketing, directs all phases of
the public relations function and strategy for the organization. The Director of Marketing and Communications will integrate public relations activities into overall marketing campaigns to support the organizations objectives.
Strong writing skills are essential.
In support of those we serve, the director will work closely with senior leadership in the design and implementation of Melmark’s legislative agenda, network effectively with elected officials, human service representatives and families, and proactively coordinate with related stakeholders on key legislative issues.
The position reports to the Executive Director of Marketing and serves as a member of Melmark’s leadership team. The Director of Marketing and Communications has primary working relationships with other members of Melmark’s leadership team, the staff of the Marketing and Communications department, the Advancement department, and program and clinical service representatives.
The Director of Marketing and Communications will support, on an as needed basis, other regional programs sponsored by Melmark.
EDUCATION: B.A/B.S. Degree in Communications, Journalism, Business, English, or equivalent. Graduate degree in a related field is desirable. M.B.A. strongly preferred.
EXPERIENCE: A minimum of 5 years experience in Marketing or Communications is required, with a background in serving individuals with developmental disabilities and the not-for-profit sector. Possess a minimum of two years driving experience holding a U.S. state vehicles drivers license.
SPECIAL TRAINING/SKILLS: Thorough knowledge of strategic marketing and organizational planning, communications, publication processes, and media relations. Excellent writing skills with the ability to reflect knowledge of those we serve and superior communications are essential. Must possess strong public speaking skills with an ability to demonstrate knowledge of those we serve to include; verbal presentation skills, eloquence, advocacy for Melmark and people with disabilities. Must have working computer knowledge, including Excel, Word, Adobe InDesign and Data Base Management. Familiarity with digital cameras and basic picture taking skills are essential.
