Description

e.magination network, llc is a full service, award-winning Web design and application development firm located on Baltimore’s Inner Harbor near Fort McHenry, in the historical Tide Point complex. Whether looking to better understand and reach target audiences, or build custom eCommerce or Web applications, we have the creative vision and expertise to realize our clients’ on-line business goals. We help organizations innovate on-line. We create Web sites, Web-based applications and digital products that optimize the user's experience and help companies and brands connect with people on-line. Our experience spans multiple industries, serving commercial, association and government clients, varying in size from small start-up organizations to Fortune 100 companies.

e.magination is unique in the Web design industry in that we are not only experts in user-centered design, but also in technology and software systems production. We design and build on-line presence solutions, Windows applications, integration solutions, and back-end solutions with Microsoft and related technologies.

Introduction

Our Design Team employs our highly collaborative and iterative approach to creating user interfaces that deliver exceptional user experiences.  We make it easy for end-users to achieve their goals through:

User Experience Design – using a user-centered approach, researching and discovering the needs of the end user, architecting the flow of information and creating the visual compositions to optimize the effectiveness of the application.

Rapid Prototyping – iteratively developing designs that simulate the application for users and stakeholders to provide feedback and validate the Interaction Design prior to development.  Depending on the problem, these designs may be presented as whiteboards, sketches, paper prototypes, wireframes, mockups, or functional prototypes.

Position

We have an immediate need for a Senior Interaction / Information Architect as part of our Interaction Design team at our client’s site in Bowie, MD, developing a web-based, enterprise-level application.   You will create the information architecture and the overall user experience. Your challenge will be to learn the subject matter and identify design challenges. Determine how to organize and present information, how to navigate the application, and finally how to create and present usable and easily navigable solutions. You will also help to educate the application users and stakeholders about the problems that interaction design and navigation can, and cannot, solve.

Our ideal candidate has a primary expertise in user-centered design (UCD), including eliciting user needs, discerning different user types and tasks, facilitating consensus among stakeholders, creating low and high fidelity prototypes, and documenting design decisions.  You will likely work closely with our Visual Designer when there is a need for a visual treatment of the prototypes, and may work with our User Interface Developer to turn them into functional prototypes.

The key work of the Senior Information Architect is to simplify the presentation of (often) complex content, making information easy to find and understand.  This position assists in making the application interactions effective and easy to use.

Requirements Duties

Organizes diverse requirements into an intuitive, coherent, easy to navigate, application

Create compelling user interface designs (designs will be performed at different times using white boarding, sketching, and Visio) that address the target audience’s needs

Facilitate meetings with stakeholders to define and reach consensus on the above

Present prototypes and elicit feedback to refine those prototypes

Work with visual designers to create compelling visual comps of the UI

Work with visual designers and user interface developers to create compelling functional prototypes and interaction design

Create customer deliverables and obtain sign-off for same, such as

š Information Architecture

š Workflow Map

š Taxonomy

š Component Inventory

š Wireframes

Requirements

Seasoned professional with ten years of information architecture / user interface design experience.  Solid track record of eliciting and defining user requirements, interviewing subject matter experts, and creating prototype user interfaces.  Experience defining interaction design.   Ability to learn new subject areas and engage end users with expertise in those areas.  Effective oral and written communication, both formal and informal.

Local travel may be required – current contract need is in Bowie, MD.
Must be eligible to obtain Secret clearance.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, visual design or related field.
