Associate Director Analytical Sciences

Our client is a small biotech in the Boston area working on a new technology platform in the production of proteins. If you are interested in becoming a part of an entrepreneurial and dynamic environment dedicated to changing lives please read on.


Job Description:

Initiates, directs and executes scientific research and development that is critical to corporate strategies and image. Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and concepts to potential inventions, projects and problems. Plans and executes laboratory research. Maintains a broad knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theory. Makes major contributions to scientific literature and conferences. Participates in development of patent applications. Will be responsible for the management and professional development of a 4-6 person research group. Interfaces with various departments.



Job Requirements


Job Qualifications:

  • Requires a PhD in a relevant scientific discipline (Analytical Chemistry or Biochemistry) and a minimum of 7-10 years experience in an industrial setting. Expert knowledge of analytical biochemistry principles and concepts is required.
  • As an alternative, a Masters degree may be considered if combined with a minimum of 12-15 years related experience.
  • Projects require expert and extensive knowledge of advanced analytical principles, theories and concepts.
  • The person will often act as project leader and will serve as an organizational consultant and spokesperson on specialized projects or programs.
  • Specifically the individual will be responsible for the development, implementation, and tech transfer of analytical methods involved in the biotechnology industry including methods that explore the quality and quantity of recombinant molecules.
  • Experience in the analysis of glycans, development of ELISA and enzymatic assays, examination of structural integrity of proteins are a must.
  • The person should be able to analyze data provide scientific input and direction to junior personnel within the group; prioritize projects and resources, write technical reports and manuscripts for publications, present to internal and external scientific meetings.
  • Previous experience with the analysis of proteins produced in mammalian cells is a plus.
  • A minimum of 5+ years supervisory management experience of both PhD & non-PhD scientists
