Description

JOB SUMMARY:   Responsible for the development and coordination of the therapeutic activities program to meet the needs of the patients and to enable patients and families to utilize psychiatric care to achieve their optimal level of mental health.  The RT documents individual patient’s participation in activities.  Assess the needs of the patient population on an ongoing basis in order to plan appropriate therapeutic activities.  Provides social, physical, intellectual and recreational activities and meets state, federal and facility requirements regarding activity documentation.  Recreational Therapy is an active component of the treatment milieu, teaching important life skills (coping skills, etc.) in order to assist patient population to maintain adequate functioning in the community.  Performs other related duties as required.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:       Bachelor's Degree in Therapeutic Recreation

Experience:    Prefer one year experience in RT in mental health setting

License/Registration: Certification or eligible for certification with the National Council of Recreational Therapists. Licensure as LRT by North Carolina Board of Recreational Therapists   Must be NCI certified

Other:                         Strong communication and interpersonal skills.  Ability to work with psychiatric patients.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Must be able to sit/stand/walk for extended periods of time.  Requires full range of body motion including occasional bending, twisting, squatting, and kneeling; lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds; corrected vision and hearing to normal range; finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.  Ability to perform various physical activities.
