Description Purpose of Position:

Supports Engineering using CAD software to prepare 2-D/3-D layouts, detail drawings, assembly drawings, sketches and diagrams.  Details include all views and dimensions necessary for manufacture and construction.  Generates and creates BOM’s and revision information for input to engineering and manufacturing databases.  Applies knowledge of design practices and interacts with Engineers or Supervisor to solve design issues.  Solid understanding of drafting techniques and familiarity with engineering terminology.

Functional Responsibilities:

  • (Works directly with engineers to produce detailed, multi-view drawings from sketches, 2-D/3-D layouts, existing drawings and electronic images.

  • Design parts based on written and verbal descriptions from design engineers.

  • Uses CAD design/drafting software (AutoCAD and SolidWorks) to develop designs.

  • Creates and revises production drawings (details and assembly drawings).

  • Reviews drawings, checking dimension of parts, materials to be used, relation of one part to another, and relation of various parts of whole structure or project.

  • Sketches design rough layout and computes angles, weights, surface areas, dimensions, radii clearances, tolerances, leverages, and locations of holes.

  • Utilizes knowledge of various machines, engineering practices, mathematics, materials, plating and other physical sciences to complete drawings, creating engineering/manufacturing work instructions.

  • Update drafting and engineering standards.

Requirements
  • AutoCAD

  • Mechanical aptitude with ability to complete basic mathematical calculations.

  • Solid understanding of drafting techniques and familiarity with engineering terminology.
