Job Description 

JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE:

The product/design engineer plays an important role in the organization that services multiple LBU’s of the ABB AP NAM Division in the Low Voltage Products Business. Product/Design Engineering encompasses the design and analysis of parts, components, assemblies, subassemblies and systems, and the production of associated drawings and instructions.

The design engineer performs various engineering duties requiring the exercise of judgment and application of standard engineering principles and practices. Pursue initiatives to improve effectiveness of the group and increase customer satisfaction. The incumbent monitors the quality of work, reviews costs, schedules, timeliness of delivery and conformance to specifications to assure that products are delivered accurately to the customer.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

• Perform various engineering tasks involving such functions as analysis, design, development, test, installation and service, while working from instructions, drawings, proposals, specifications, and other pertinent information.

• Prepare specifications and related documents in accordance with requirements, established formats and general instructions. Review and analyze a variety of engineering data, documents and reports.

• Consult with other engineering groups to ensure that specified engineering criteria are suitable for the proposed application, and recommend revisions, as appropriate.

• Plan, conduct or coordinate relatively straight-forward engineering analyses and tests, and prepare related reports and summaries, for review.

• Participate in the investigation of technical problems and the establishment of procedures and corrective actions to avoid recurrences.

• Maintain supplier and new product information including supplier contact information, quote data and other commercial information for Supply Management.

• Assist with supplier qualifications and associated engineering management databases. Investigate and recommend improvements and changes, such as utilization of new technologies and other measures to achieve operating efficiencies and increase customer satisfaction.

• Lead cost savings initiatives generating recommendations and facilitating cost improvement projects.

• Maintain effective cross-functional relationships working closely with production, supply chain, R&D, product management and sales to assure the critical measurements for the business.

• Follow and comply with all safety and work rules and regulations. Maintain departmental housekeeping standards.

 


Job Requirements 

Requires bachelor’s degree in business or a related field and one to eight years of experience, or a combination of education and experience and/or demonstrated accomplishments.
