Description
 
The Recreational Therapist assesses, plans, implements and evaluates treatment of psychiatric patients in inpatient, partial hospital, and outpatient settings.  The Recreational Therapist works within a multi-disciplinary treatment team to assure patients receive education and practice behaviors that support appropriate use of leisure time. 
 
Position Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrates uncompromising ethics and personal integrity by adhering to the highest standards of ethical behavioral.
  • Demonstrates dignity and respect by not perpetrating rumors that adversely affect customer relations and work place moral.  Shares information regarding concerns only with appropriate people.
  • Demonstrates team spirit and initiative to improve the quality of the decision-making process.
  • Takes initiative to assist other staff in completion of their assignments, as needed.
  • Accepts reassignment and additional duties, when necessary, in a flexible and positive manner.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety and related criteria, appropriate to the age of patients served in his/her assigned service area.
  • Demonstrates competency in interpretation of patient's self-reported behavior related to age of the patient.
  • Understands the cognitive, physiologic, and psychological growth and maturational development of the patient as it relates to his/her age.

Qualifications

  • Clinical skills and practice congruent with accepted best practice standards of care
  • Demonstrates professionalism by appearance, actions, self-development, and guest relations
  • Uses interpersonal skills, which convey a positive and supportive attitude
  • Demonstrates flexibility with schedule changes or changing job assignments to meet patient care needs.
  • Excellent language and communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstration of a team approach to work.
  • Able to handle high stress situations. 
  • Demonstrates advance practice in assessment and clinical skills and ability to plan and facilitate therapy groups.
 

- Four Year/Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree preferred.

-One to Three years of social work experience required.

-BLS (Basic Life Support) for Healthcare Provider Certification required (American Heart Association)
