Operations and Engineering has an immediate and exciting opportunity for a Division Manager. This person will oversee all aspects of Northern Trust’s SAN Engineering (DASD, Tape, SAN Switches, Network Attached Storage, etc.).
Duties will include:
- Develop strategy and engineer solutions in support of our present and future Storage/SAN needs.
- Develop and staff the organization as required to meet company information technology needs and business strategy
- Develop the necessary processes, procedures, controls and environment to produce and maintain a reliable and efficient SAN environment
- Establish and implement our overall backup and recovery strategy for Mainframe and Open systems.
- Collaborate with business and technology partners to meet Northern Trust business needs
- Manage 4-5 SAN Engineers and collaborate on Data Center Expansion
- Manage the expense and capital budgets for the Division
- Ensure availability and stability objectives are met for all supported environments
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems or related field, suitable work experience will be considered
- Minimum of 10 years experience in technology and support major SAN/storage technologies.
- Minimum 2-3 years in a management position with experience managing technology, staff and budgets. Experience working in an enterprise environment is preferred.
- Minimum 3 -5 years managing complex infrastructure technology projects and Storage Area networks
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Build and implement our Enterprise Storage Strategy including SAN, DASD, Tape and backups.
- Ensure that strong project management practices are utilized for all SAN infrastructure projects.
- Translate business needs into technology solutions by understanding the big picture for systems and how they integrate into the existing environment.
- Operate within a fast pace and dynamic environment consistent within a growing global company.
- Work on a daily basis with top-level IT team members on strategic major initiatives requiring desktop direction and support.
- Provide direction to section managers responsible for team performance, project delivery, and environment stability/availability. This includes providing direction to ensure follow-through on projects, shifting of priorities and escalation of issues to management.
- Ensure a multi-year strategy is established and maintained for all global storage, including a project roadmap and equipment lifecycle plan.
- Oversee staff development and management, provide coaching and mentoring. Ensure all NT personnel practices are adhered to closely.
- Successfully communicate to all levels of management, internal and external customers, and other IT departments to assess and determine ongoing needs and requirements regarding process improvements, technology review, issues, and deployment.
- Manage the on-going relationship, from a support perspective, with all service providers, software vendors, and support vendors.
- Ensure that teams adhere to all Problem Management and Change processes including problem determination procedures, trouble shooting processes, ticket creation, timely and detailed ticket updates, escalation and notification processes and closure within the specific resolution.
- Define and establish metrics which show progress against key performance areas.
- Manage all financial aspects of the SAN and Data Center moves, including budget creation, monthly performance analysis, and detailed monthly reporting as well as ad-hoc reporting.
- Translate regulatory requirements into practice and procedures, ensuring that these policy and procedures satisfy auditing and compliance requirements.
CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS - Skills Required:
- Must be well organized, a self-starter, and possess diligent follow-through capabilities, as well as strong customer service skills.
- Must excel in team building and exhibit a collaborative approach to problem solving.
- Possess and consistently demonstrate a "can do" attitude. The successful candidate must be able to challenge the norm to enable departmental and company growth
- Proven project management skills in complex infrastructure projects
- Ability to readily communicate with Partners at all levels in the organization
- Excellent interpersonal skills and communication
- Must have in-depth knowledge of Storage products and their capabilities.
