Position Purpose:
The Electrical Engineer will be a part of the Watts Radiant engineering team and will be involved in activities in the areas of new product identification, opportunity assessment, product development and launch.
Key Responsibilities/Duties:
A. Ideation process, including:
1. Identification of technologies that create value for our customers, build on our core strengths and enhance our relative competitive position.
2. Soliciting ideas from both internal (sales, marketing and manufacturing) and external sources (agents, customers, vendors, industry contacts, research groups, outside consultants, etc.) to uncover needs from the marketplace.
B. New Product Development, including:
1. Development of distinctive and innovative new products, line extensions and directing the review of buy-sell opportunities. Coordination of new product development activities with all appropriate functional areas, ensuring buy-in and project awareness at an early stage.
2. Evaluate the technical feasibility of new products, assess options as they relate to manufacturing or purchasing, and coordinate financial feasibility of programs
3. Aggressively develop new technologies that "replace or obsolete" our current products. This includes exploration of other materials that can provide comparable functionality.
4. Work with Materials Management to qualify vendors or new product components to ensure dependable sources of supply, high quality standards & responsive service.
5. Accelerating our "go-to-market strategy" for new products and identifying product enhancements (next generation for follow-on new products) that increase ROI for existing products.
C. Be a part of the executive team involved in a rigorous process to determine project prioritization and resource allocation. This Team will conduct a front-end feasibility analysis to ensure only those projects that meet established guidelines will warrant development time.
D. Drive, in conjunction with executive team the product roadmap for each product line- identifying gaps, opportunities and risks.
E. Coordinate the development of detailed engineering documentation for all new products including detailed drawings, material specifications, quality plans (including inspection instructions).
F. Responsible for working with our legal counsel to protect or create our Intellectual Property rights. This includes the development of patents (product or utility) as we develop new technologies and products.
G. Responsible for developing a broad understanding of our "failure modes" and then developing solutions, including new technologies or processes, that can reduce the likelihood of field failure. This includes a thorough understanding of corrosion issues - and development of cost effective solutions.
