  • GEL COAT CHEMIST IN VADNAIS HEIGHTS, MINNESOTA
  • RESIN CHEMIST IN FT. WRIGHT, KENTUCKY.

INTERPLASTIC CORPORATION is a leading manufacturer and national supplier of polyester, vinyl ester resins, gel coats, and colorants.  We presently have a Gel Coat Resin Chemist position available at our facility located in Vadnais Heights (Suburb of St. Paul), Minnesota as well as a Resin Chemist position available at our facility located in Ft. Wright, Kentucky. 

 
POSITION DESCRIPTIONS:

 

  • GEL COAT CHEMIST (VADNAIS HEIGHTS, MINNESOTA):

This position is responsible for developing new gel coat and colorant products, evaluating competitive products, assisting in product problem resolution and presiding over product scale up and field trials.

The ideal candidate will have experience conducting laboratory work for the evaluation of new raw materials, developing new products, optimizing existing products and preparing samples for customer evaluations.  In addition, he/she must possess the ability to recommend direction for laboratory efforts and participate in laboratory quality assurance projects.  The individual chosen for this position must be able to monitor scale up activities for manufacturing of new products as well as communicates effectively with all parties involved and be able to assist in field problem resolution, including technical service as needed.

 

  • RESIN CHEMIST (FT. WRIGHT, KENTUCKY):

This position concerns itself with the responsibility of preparing resin samples for field trials, evaluating competitive resins, and assisting in product problem resolution.

The ideal candidate will have experience formulating unsaturated polyester resins and gel coat products, evaluating and qualifying raw materials to be used.  In addition, he/she must possess the ability to support the pilot plant scale up and commercialization of new products, develop a knowledge base, prepare and present technical papers to the industry.  The individual chosen for this position must be able to keep abreast of current scientific progress in the gel coat, color and adhesive field by participating in meetings and reviewing technical literature and be able to participate in technical service activities and new product evaluations with customers.

 


Job Requirements 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:


GEL COAT CHEMIST (VADNAIS HEIGHTS, MINNESOTA):


Requirements:

  • B.S. degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Material Science or equivalent.

  • Experience in coating formulation analysis.

  • Good oral and written communication skills.

  • Excellent Computer Skills

  • Able to discern colors

  • Good organization and time management skills.

 
Preferred:

  • Experience in color analysis and matching, Knowledge of thermoset polyester chemistry and formulating experience

RESIN CHEMIST (FT. WRIGHT, KENTUCKY):


Requirements:

  • B.S. Degree or higher in Chemistry, Polymer or Material Science or Chemical Engineering.
  • Experience with polymer synthesis, characterization of coatings and surface science.
  • Knowledge of polymer characterization by physical and chemical methods.
  • Experience with mechanical analysis of polymers or composites.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent Computer Skills


Preferred:

  • Knowledge of gel coats, colorants and thermoset polyesters or vinyl esters and knowledge of fillers and additives used in the formulation of composite materials.
