Job Description 

Sr. Engineering Project Manager – Omaha, NE - #1390

 

Role Purpose

For major high level capital projects throughout NAFTA, or in support of outsourced supply options:
1. Manage multiple engineering capital projects ensuring the timely implementation of new or improved assets consistent with rapidly changing business requirements and within agreed cost and safety parameters.
2. Provide expert advice and direction to others by the timely application of technical and/or project management professionalism at key points in the project process.

Project Management is defined as "The planning, monitoring and control of all aspects of a project and the motivation of all those involved in it to achieve the project objectives on time and to the specified cost, quality, safety and performance."

 

Accountabilities –
Financial scope:
Manage assigned capital projects ranging from $40M up to $100MM (singularly or in aggregate)
Direct people responsibility:
None
Indirect people responsibility:
Indirect management of numerous design and construction contractor personnel

Through a clear understanding of the business strategy, intent or requirements:

Manage projects directly: Agree and set success criteria for projects and formulate and deliver project execution strategies ensuring successful delivery of the project through a project team (e.g. Syngenta staff, the design and construction contractors and equipment suppliers) meeting those criteria.

Through support to projects managed by others, influence and direct the scale, nature, timing and execution of capital investments to meet changing business requirements.

Define, estimate, deliver and track the costs and physical progress of individual capital projects

Prepare robust, timely applications for engineering capital approvals

Ensure full integration between commissioning and start up activities and the design and construction phases of projects.

Develop an in-depth knowledge of the engineering requirements for AI and FF&P Plants making leading edge engineering solutions available for use in Syngenta sites around the world
As part of the NAFTA CPG, provide project management and technical support to projects across NAFTA

• Objectivity regarding standards
• Spanish speaking preferred but not mandatory

Critical knowledge
• The Syngenta Project Process and Capital Sanctioning System
• Concepts and procedures required to deliver all elements of a capital program.
• Techniques of economic evaluation, including development of capital cost estimates and discounted cash flow financial analyses
• Expertise in all project management knowledge area;
• Enhanced expertise in project definition, cost control, contract negotiation and contract management

Critical experience
• Undergraduate degree in engineering discipline or equivalent
10 plus years experience managing capital projects

• MBA preferred or at minimum practitioner-level experience in finance as it relates to capital projects
• Extensive experience managing capital projects and negotiation of contracts
• Experience communicating with and influencing senior stakeholders

Critical Success Factors and Key Challenges –

With the sudden and unexpected change in the crop protection business speed of response and project delivery is critical. The SEPM must have extensive knowledge of the realization of chemical process to plant design and strong personal drive to create the edge and momentum required to drive forward very fast project implementation
