COMMERICAL UNDERWRITER

 

United Brokers is actively seeking a Commercial Lines Underwriter for their New Albany office, located just 10 miles from downtown Louisville. Qualified candidates will have a minimum of 3 years underwriting experience preferably in the Commercial Property & Casualty area and track record of achieving results. We are looking for someone who is comfortable and effective at building relationships with agents and cultivating new business.

 

Breakdown of Typical Workweek

  • Underwriting and quoting of new business – 60%
  • Underwriting, pricing, negotiation of renewals – 10%
  • Business cultivation/marketing – 30%

 

Job Duties

  • Examines and evaluates documents such as application forms, inspection reports, product brochures, financial reports and other data to determine degree of risk, underwriting, and market selection.

  • Accepts, prices, and binds insurance within underwriting authority; and brokers to other underwriters or companies insurance beyond authority.

  • Prepares submissions; markets and negotiates with insurance companies on individual accounts.

  • Communicates orally with account executives, clients and underwriters to obtain further information, quote rates, present proposals, explain company underwriting policies, or service existing account

  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from clients, customers, and managers.Interprets a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  • Actively markets UB products to existing and new agents in designated territory.Other duties as assigned.

 

 

Requirements

  • 3 years Property/Casualty underwriting experience.
  •  Experience working on complex accounts, preferred.
  • Must be results oriented with a desire to exceed standards of excellence.
  • Positive, “can-do" attitude.
  • Comfortable working independently.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret general business procedures or regulations.
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions and percentages.
  • Skill and ability to read and understand financial statements, applications, computer printouts, rating manuals and other insurance related materials. 
  •  Word and Excel, basic level of proficiency.
