Description

Brief Summary of Position:

 

Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, provides and assists with the care of the patient, performing technical tasks and monitoring as directed by the E.D. Registered Nurse, cleaning of equipment and work areas, and also responsible for clerical and receptionist duties of the nursing unit.  Acts as a liaison between nursing staff, medical staff, visitors, patients, and other departments.  Must follow and adhere to all federal and state laws and regulations, as well as the HCA Code of Conduct and SBMC Performance Standards.

 

Educational Level

 

            Master’s degree or advanced degree program

            College degree, 4 - 5 year program completed

   X      High school plus some college or technical training (example Paramedic-EMT-Intermediate)

            High school education/GED

            Eighth - tenth grade education

            Below eighth grade education

 

Licensure/Certifications

1.   BCLS

2.   Ability to read, write, and speak English well.

3.   Knowledge of medical terminology.

4.   Ability to spell non-technical words and so simple arithmetic correctly.

5.   Current Texas EMT-I/P Certification or 3-years ER Tech experience in a similar clinical setting. 

 

Experience

One year emergency experience or formal training, such as Certified Emergency Medical Technician or Military Corpsman.

 

Employee must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned service area, as defined in this job description/performance evaluation.
