GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: The Surgery Manager manages patient care processes and surgery staff to assure the quality of patient care and nursing functions in the ambulatory surgery center.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Organize, distribute and direct the work of the nursing staff of the center so as to effectively assure the quality of patient care and the efficient operation of the center.
· Evaluate the performance of the nursing staff so as to assure the quality/reliability of patient care delivery.
· Interview, hire, and train the staff of the center including in-service training.
· Maintain control, inventory and records of Pharmaceuticals in accordance with government and administrative regulations and procedures.
· Maintain and control of supplies inventory and purchases to assure availability at optimum cost.
· Maintain, develop, recommend and implement record keeping systems as necessary to assure quality of patient care and effective center operations.
· Conduct regular nursing staff meetings.
· Assure that the center and related equipments are maintained in functional and aseptic condition consistent with center policy, quality assurance standards and government regulations.
· Serve as Safety Director for the center; review/conduct safety related inspections, problems, fire drills and emergence plans.
· Support and coordinate medical staff committee activities including studies, information gathering and report preparation.
· Prepare and submit reports, budgets, etc., as necessary so as to assist in administration of Center operations, assure quality of patient care and fulfill government reporting requirements.
Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of accredited School of Nursing with documented continuing education in applicable areas.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years related surgery center experience with demonstrated administrative ability. Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years proven experience supervising nursing staff.
REQUIREMENTS: Current license as a registered nurse in the State of Indiana.
KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of all aspects of scope of patient care relative to registered and practical nursing. Knowledge of state and federal guidelines regulating ambulatory surgery centers.
SKILLS: Must demonstrate proficiency in general skills relative to center policies and procedures, pre-Op, surgery, scrub routine, post-op, and equipment. (See Skill Proficiency Checklist)
ABILITIES: Ability to work effectively with patients, physicians, staff, and external agencies. Ability to listen and understand OR personnel wearing routine OR attire, i.e. masks. Ability to read and review handwritten chart notations. Ability to utilize nursing process, design, coordinate and deliver care to meet the identified needs of patients.
