JDRF is the worldwide leader for research to cure type 1 diabetes. It sets the global agenda for diabetes research, and is the largest charitable funder and advocate of diabetes science worldwide. The mission of JDRF is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease that strikes children and adults suddenly, and can be fatal or lead to devastating complications. Since its founding in 1970 by parents of children with type 1 diabetes, JDRF has awarded more than $1.3 billion to diabetes research, including more than $156 million in FY2008. In FY2008, the Foundation funded more than 1,000 centers, grants in laboratories, hospitals, and industry, and fellowships in 22 countries.
Currently we are accepting applications for a Network Design/Telecom Engineer for our headquarters office in lower Manhattan. Responsibilities include design, installation, configuration and support of Cisco routers, switches, firewalls, and virtual private network (VPN) and VOIP equipment. This person will architect, plan, configure, troubleshoot and administer a variety of network equipment and technology, including; Cisco 6500 Series Switches, ASA Firewalls, Cisco Routers and global IP Telephony solution. Additionally s/he will manage networking, routing, and firewall devices, analyze daily logs in order to strengthen and maintain security on the network, and lead or assist on projects geared toward network expansion and technology upgrades.
Responsibilities
- Configure/Implement/Maintain Cisco Catalyst switches, routers, firewalls, Call Manager VOIP servers at the National office for entire organization.
- Implement and configure VPN tunnels on ASA routers.
- Manage move of Telecommunications and Data equipment and services for Chapter Relocations.
- Serve as the key point of contact for troubleshooting & resolving complex network, systems, & security issues Work with Voice and Data carriers and vendors to insure highest availability of network resources
- Develop options, recommendations & associated cost benefits for vendor services
- Document engineering standards & proposals for network designs & provide recommendations
- Work directly with Cisco technical support to resolve problems and outages, as well as mapping out solutions to new network opportunities
- Utilize Network tools to analyze JDRF’s Local and Wide Area networks to monitor network performance in order to identify and resolve network congestion or weaknesses
- Support Chapter Wide Area Network connections to the Internet and National office.
- Develop and implement a plan to improve JDRF’s network security. Once implemented, maintain systems and software to ensure JDRF is not exposed to Network attacks.
- Continue to extend the design of JDRF’s IP addressing for entire Network.
Requirements
This a full time position - no contractors.
CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional) Certification is a must have
- At least 5 years experience building and supporting routers, firewalls, layer 2 and layer 3 switches in a complex corporate data networks
- 3-4 years experience supporting Cisco Call Manager (CCM), Cisco Contact Center Express (IPCC), and Unity Unified Messaging
- Advanced knowledge of Multicast and Routing/Switching protocols ( Required OSPF/BGP/HSRP)
- Advanced knowledge of MPLS\SIP based networks, Layer 3 switching, VPNs
- Experience managing Internet and Wide Area circuits
- In-depth knowledge of firewall/DMZ architecture and perimeter network security.
- Working knowledge of Quality of Service, Policy Routing, NAT, IPSec, VLANs, and load balancing techniques.
- Experience in managing integrated email, phone and other communication systems such as between MS Exchange and Unity
- Several years experience with DNS, DHCP, domains and various IP based applications
- Experience with monitoring, troubleshooting, trend analysis, and voice QOS tools
Unix\Linux background
- Excellent analytical, organizational, time management and problem solving skills are essential.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills,
- College degree preferred, ideally in computer science or a related field
- 2 to 4 years experience building & supporting
