The Instructor for Accounting is responsible for the curriculum, quality of teaching and learning and the success of students in achieving learning outcomes for Accounting, Finance, and Economics courses in the Colorado Technical University (CTU) Online curriculum. Works with the Program Director for Accounting and other administrators to ensure that instruction meets students’ expectations and aligns with the university’s mission. Leads, motivates and assists in the development of faculty within the program area to ensure quality delivery of instruction. Works closely with the Course Development group to improve courses for successful learning outcomes and assist with the development of new courses. Works closely with learning lab and tutorial services to ensure that appropriate resources are provided to support student learning outcomes.
- Coordinates academic offerings in accounting, finance, and economics, including work on new course development and course revision work with the Course Development team
- Evaluates the currency and applicability of course materials for accounting, finance and economics courses
- Provides input to and quality control of the curriculum development and revision process, including textbook selection
- Participates in institutional effectiveness initiatives and assessment of student learning through established processes
- Provides input and direction for faculty scheduling and class loading through established processes
- Coordinates communication on policy, curriculum changes, learning goals and other matter with all Accounting faculty
- Participates in the faculty mentoring program and leads faculty meetings, as required
- Teaches 12 courses annually within the program area
- Participates actively in all relevant University program committees
- Participates actively in the CTU student retention program
- Assists the Program Chair for Accounting as needed with approving transfer credit for relevant courses in coordination with Prior Learning Assessment team
- Understands the mission, vision, goals and academic standards policies of the University and espouses them in the performance of duties
- Adheres to all CTU policies, procedures, integrity and ethical standards
- Performs all other duties as assigned
- Solid background in the theory and practice of accounting education
- Strong evidence of professional development activity
- Understanding of the for-profit education system
- Knowledge of University and company policies and procedures, applicable federal and state regulations and accrediting agency standards and requirements
- Agree not to teach for competing institutions outside of CTU Online or the Colorado Technical University ground campus locations while employed by the University
Experience Required
- Master’s Degree in Accounting or relevant discipline required
- Additional certifications: Certified Public Accountant, Certified Financial Analyst, Certified Financial Planner or other suitable licensure strongly preferred
- Minimum 5 years college/university teaching experience, preferable online
