Job Description

Primary focus is customer satisfaction and ensuring timely roll-out and setup of Bakery goods plan-o-grams in large grocery stores and convenience stores.  Management position requiring long hours (10-12) managing, training, coaching, and disciplining up to 15 union employees including route sales reps, mechanics and shipping employees.  Must be able to run employee routes/territory to cover employee absences, hence the need to be able to drive a manual transmission truck and pass a DOT physical.  Typical day starts at 5 a.m.  Position requires quality checking of product code/dating, display compliance, promotional planning, record keeping, and reporting deadlines utilizing computerized systems. High attention to detail and ability to handle many issues at one time is critical for success.

 

Must be able to drive manual transmission/stick shift large box panel truck.

 

  PRINCIPAL ROLES and RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Provide daily management scheduling and supervision for assigned route sales persons, relief route sales persons and merchandisers and pull up employees
  • Promote sales of IBC products by implementing company sales direction through sales reps
  • Call on customers to establish customer relationships
  • Generate sales and to maintain strong customer relationships
  • Ensure implementation of Company sales and marketing strategies
  • Maintain communication with Business Unit GM, Market Unit GM and direct reports
  • Communicate with Operations to ensure product quality and proper order flow
  • Responsible for Key Performance Indicators for net revenue management returns and safety.
  • Monitor contractual implementation and maintain union contacts as necessary
  • Demonstrate leadership team building and conflict resolution for immediate employee
  • Manage all factors of route performance utilizing current technology
  • Responsible for route level sales plans  
  • Enhance route performance through use of technology 

 

 

 


Job Requirements 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

 

At least 2 years of proven experience as a District Sales Manager in a retail customer base within the last 10 years is required, and a minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience.  

 

  Education and/or on-the-job experience needed

 

  • Minimum of high school or G.E.D. required. A two-year degree is preferred and a four-year degree is a plus
  • 2 years of proven District Sales Manager within the last 10 years
  • 2 years Direct Store Delivery (Retail) experience
  • 3 years or more supervising and managing employees
  • Travel is required in assigned territory
  • Able to tolerate work schedule and physical demands of route work
  • Must pass DOT physical requirements
  • Must have acceptable MVR
  • Relationship Building - Ability to develop collaborative working relationships with all levels of management and various functional groups both internal and external
  • Ability to interact with local labor representation
  • Written and Oral Communication – Effective communications skills including giving clear verbal direction actively listening to others and fostering open communication
