Project Engineer - Automation Equipment

Requirements

Establishes a project vision, sets aggressive goals, provides technical direction, schedules and establishes budget for advanced automated assembly and test systems.  Works closely with an engineering team to create a master design specification that defines the system functionality.   Draws on experience in mechanical and control system practices and techniques to determine the optimum approach to produce a robust, capable system.  May occasionally travel to the customer site to assist in the installation/ start-up and final machine acceptance. Detailed requirements:

 

  • Four year technical degree specialized in electrical controls or machine design or recent 5 to 10 years of equivalent experience
  • Able to translate project and customer requirements into specific achievable team goals
  • Highly organized and able to effectively perform project management analysis techniques for standard projects by preparing and updating a project schedule or ToDo list
  • Understand how to achieve goals and solve problems thought teamwork and collaboration
  • Proven track record of leading projects to technical success: on time and within budget
  • Handle the budget responsibilities of approximately $250 thousand to $2 Million.
  • Direct mechanical and controls engineers and review results to ensure that engineering work is meeting set goals and is accomplished according to established AeroSpec practices and standards
  • Conform with industry standards including ISO 9000 quality procedures
  • Have an established network of contacts within the automation industry.  
  • Working knowledge of  Microsoft Office

Specific experience in one or more of the following a plus:

 

  • Working knowledge of Solidworks 2009 or previous versions+
  • Lead a team of mechanical designers and detailers within a 3d CAD environment 
  • Develop design specifications to client requirements which addresses mechanical system design, system performance and timing analysis, mechanism design, tooling design, ergonomic and safety analysis and critical design review presentations
  • Experience in developing and analyzing solid models of complex machines that perform simultaneous production process operations
  • Perform typical engineering calculations for machine design
  • Familiarity with the selection a wide variety of mechanical component parts and equipment
  • Ability to quickly grasp the functionality of complex processing equipment such as lasers, ultrasonic bonders, machine visions systems, safety equipment, weight sensing devices, etc
  • Performing process development, design of experiment studies, Gage R&R studies
  • Familiar with the design principles behind machine parts, weldments, sheet metal fabrications, mechanical assemblies
  • Able to recognize how to reduce engineering costs by streamlining the mechanical design workflow
  • Integration and programming of Allen-Bradley ControlLogix controllers utilizing SERCOS motion control, Ethernet IP, ControlNet and DeviceNet.
  • Integration of Allen-Bradley Kinetix 2000 and 6000 Integrated Motion Control.
  • Working knowledge of object oriented programming utilizing Visual Basic 6.0 as an HMI, communicating with PLCs, databases and other PCs via Ethernet.
  • Experience in pneumatic systems to include air preparation, valve banks, solenoids and cylinders.
  • HMI experience with PanelView, PanelView Plus, Simantic, Wonderware, Cimplicity ME, Modicon and/or Quick Panel.
  • Basic knowledge of Machine Vision Systems (Cognex), RSView, ControlLogix 5000, PLC ladder logic, HMI development, wiring codes, control panel design, AC/DC servo controls and networking (ethernet, devicenet, modbus, profibus, etc.).
