GENERAL SUMMARY

Individual is responsible for the development, coordination, and supervision of the transportation  function as it relates to the Crown Imports supply chain and logistics functions and personnel.   Manages policies, procedures, and measurements tied to supply chain, logistics, distribution and transportation. 

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Manages the third party logistics providers including vendor performance, resolution of escalated customer issues, and negotiating problem resolution to reach the best result for Crown’s interests.
2. Develops, implements, and maintains a demurrage management program.  Work with other Supply Chain departments to limit Crown’s exposure to demurrage and detention payments. 
3. Serves as team lead for transportation carrier management.  This includes carrier selection, ensuring rates are competitive, ensuring carriers and warehouses have necessary permits, licenses and certificates of insurance, and manages contract negotiations for both carriers and warehouse providers.  
4. Works with joint venture partners to assure, as appropriate, consistent management of freight rate data bases and to leverage carrier relationships. 
5. Develops and implements carrier performance measurement system.  This includes the development of performance metrics and scorecard for each major third party supply chain vendor.
6. Develops external operational standards for each transportation provider and monitors and enforces those established standards. 
7. Performs network optimization studies and monitors modes of transportation and distribution channels to ensure cost competitiveness and efficient distribution methods. 
8. Supervises payment of vendor invoices including systems and processes to ensure efficient, accurate, and timely accounts. 
9. Supervises and develops Transportation Team members, to include planning and assigning work/responsibilities, developing goals/objectives, and overseeing overall performance. 
10. Works with department personnel to review and identify opportunities for improvement and enhancement regarding supply chain systems and processes. 
11. Assists with special projects, supplier/vendor presentations and other assignments as needed.
12. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements 1. Must have a Bachelor’s degree, logistics degree preferred, and extensive rail management experience, or equivalent work experience, and five plus years experience in logistics or related field with at least two years supervisory experience.
2. Must have excellent quantitative and analytical skills with the ability to translate analytical skills into high level analysis and demand planning. 
3. Logistics knowledge of all modes of transportation and negotiation experience and skills are required.  Including knowledge of AAR rules and regulations, shipping laws and tariffs, and import shipping. 
4. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel (or equivalent software) is required.  ERP experience is also desirable (JD Edwards preferred). Must be comfortable working with computers and have the ability to learn new software.
5. Requires excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate well across all levels of the organization. Must have excellent customer service skills with the ability to work with both internal and external customers. Must be able to make decisions independently and recommend viable solutions to problems and issues.
6. Must have the ability to handle a heavy workload and be able to work under pressure while handling frequent changes in direction, without losing focus. Must be willing to put in whatever time is necessary to get the job done, including time after normal business hours and weekends as needed.
7. Must be willing and able to travel as needed.
8. Must be willing to learn and acquire new skills and abilities. 
9. Spanish fluency preferred.
