Job Description

The Nurse Supervisor (R.N.) assumes responsibility for complete facility operations during the evening and night shifts and on weekends.  This includes supervising nursing and clinical staff, ensuring that patient care is provided in an accurate and timely manner.  This position has responsibility for the supervision of care of patients ranging in age from preschool through geriatrics.

The Staff Nurse (R.N.) is a registered professional nurse who prescribes, coordinates, and evaluates patient care through collaborative efforts with health team members in accordance with the nursing process and the standards of care and practices.  The Staff Nurse must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served.

Areas of Responsibility

 

 

Assessment – Applies appropriate theory/standards for decisions/actions regarding nursing procedures.


Treatment Planning – The plan of care is based on assessment of patient needs and goals.


Intervention/Evaluation – Uses psycho therapeutic interventions to assist patients and families in attaining goals.


Milieu Management – Maintain structure to provide therapeutic environment.

 


Knowledge – Skills - Abilities


 

  • Knowledge of psychiatric and medical nursing procedures is essential.

  • Knowledge of all code procedures.
  • Knowledge of Mental Health Laws and Child Abuse/Neglect/Maltreatment laws, and the DHS provider agreement as applicable.

  • Skill in organizing and prioritizing workloads to meet deadlines.
  • Skill in telephone etiquette and paging procedures.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients and co-workers.
  • Ability to adhere to safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to use good judgment and to maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Ability to work as a team player.
  • Ability to demonstrate tact, resourcefulness, patience and dedication.
  • Ability to accept direction and adhere to policies and procedures.
  • Ability to recognize the importance of adapting to the various patient age groups to which assigned (ranging from preschool to geriatrics).

Job Requirements

Education

 

Graduate from an accredited program of professional nursing required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.

Experience

 

Nurse Supervisor: Five (5) years experience in a psychiatric health-care facility with (2) two years management experience preferred.

 

Staff Nurse: Two (2) years experience in a psychiatric health-care facility.

 

Licensure

 

Currently licensed to practice by the Nevada State Board of Nursing.  Must have a valid driver's license.

 

Additional Requirements

 

CPR certification and successful completion of Crisis Preventive Institute (CPI) including appropriate use of Seclusion and Restraint, within 30 days of employment, and prior to assisting in a restraining process.  Must pass a medication administration exam.
