Description

The Patient Advocate position is responsible for gathering the necessary information to respond to insurance requests. This position serves as a liaison between the patient, the medical centers and the insurance companies. 

Further responsiblities include: 

  • Opening and directing mail form insurance companies
  • Cooridnating the flow of information between insurance companies and medical centers
  • Communicating with patients as needed to resolve insurance issues
  • Drafting and sending letters to patients and insurance companies
  • Reviewing and analyzing all coding to identify issues on invoices
  • Ensuring that all required information is correctly placed on forms provided to patients  to receive full reimbursement from insurance carriers including physician’s UPIN, NPI, CLEA, group numbers, provider id numbers, procedure modifiers, etc.
  • Annual review of coding and associated changes based on ICD-9 and CPT changes
Requirements The requirements for the Patient Advocate position are:

  • Requires a College degree or medical billing certification from an accredited teaching facility or association
  • 5+  years of related work experience is preferred
  • Knowledge of CPT and ICD 9 codes and coding
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Effective interpersonal and communications skills
