Description
The Maryland Athletic Club & Wellness Center (the MAC) is looking for a Human Resource Director to join its team of professionals. We are looking for a hands-on HR leader that excels in recruiting and training. The HR Director is responsible for overseeing the human resource related planning and work for all three of its health clubs. Position will require travel between clubs in Baltimore and Baltimore County, but will be based in Timonium.
Based in the heart of Baltimore County, the MAC has three beautiful locations. The popular and highly rated 60,000 square foot Timonium club has an excellent reputation and has been voted “Baltimore’s Best Health Club" in Baltimore Magazine and “ Top 100 Clubs in America" in CBI Magazine. In the center of downtown Baltimore, MAC Harbor East is a 54,000 square foot facility also voted “Best in Baltimore" in Baltimore Magazine and “Best Place to Work-Out" in the Citypaper and features cutting edge equipment. Reporting to the Owners and COO, the HR Director will:
- Establish annual business plans for the HR function within the organization to support the Company’s strategic plan. Will work closely with the COO and Owners, and will be part of the leadership team of the company.
- Lead all recruitment and retention efforts to include initiating all job search efforts, including maintaining and creating job postings using a variety of recruiting tools, generating qualified leads, interviewing and selecting, negotiating offers of employment, and on-boarding. Substantial hands-on recruitment work is required in this role for both management level positions and staff level positions.
- Assist Owners and COO with internal learning objectives offered through an established company university program.
- Create, review, distribute, communicate and train employees on company best practices and management practices.
- Create and oversee annual HR budget and present monthly financial reports to key stakeholders to include forecasting reporting.
- Oversee performance appraisal process.
- Handle all employee relations issues and employee counseling efforts by working with management at each club location.
- Manage rewards and recognition program to include annual award programs and quarterly spot awards program.
- Oversee, provide direction and mentor HR assistant and entry level HR staff.
- Play a lead role in implementing a new HRIS system and assist with the rollout of a new payroll system in early 2010.
- Oversee and lead all benefits initiatives to include hands on benefits administration work, compliance related issues as they pertain to benefits, upkeep of all SPD’s, plan documents, administrative guidelines, etc.
- Create and distribute monthly employee newsletter.

Requirements
Requirements for this job include:
· Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or related field required
· 8-10 years of human resources experience
· Minimum of 5 years management experience
· Minimum of 5 years hands-on, recruiting experiences in a fast paced environment, experience recruiting non exempt and exempt staff
· Excellent communication skills required
· Strong knowledge of FLSA and employment law required
· Experience with payroll and HRIS required
· Strong working knowledge of employee benefits required
· Expertise in employee relations issues required
· Experience filing EEO-1 report
· Experience with FMLA leave and leave requests
· Must be able to handle multiple projects and to work in a fast paced environment
· Experience with MS office products including Excel, PowerPoint and Word
· PHR or SPHR certification preferred
