POSITION

Senior UNIX System Engineer

Responsibilities:
Summary
This position will be responsible for providing business critical support for a 24x7 enterprise UNIX (AIX/Solaris/Linux) production environment.

Major Duties
-Perform general system administration, monitoring and performance tuning of a network of IBM P-series, Sun Solaris and HP Linux systems.
-Maintain the reliability, availability, security and performance of the UNIX environment.
-Work collaboratively with other IT Support Teams to design, install and implement IT solutions to fit the business’ computing requirements.
-Provide break/fix support of associated hardware, software, and operating system. Coordinate support provided by 3rd party vendors.
-Maintain system performance by pro-active monitoring and trending the utilization of system resources. Maintain system reliability and availability by managing system updates and patches.
-Responsible for systems services, configurations, shell scripting/programming, and the development of tools to manage the environment.
-Design, install, and implement systems to provide efficient, cost effective solutions for the business’ computing needs. Research technology trends and directions within the industry, to assist with developing long-term IT infrastructure strategies.

Requirements QUALIFICATIONS

Required -Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in computer science, management information systems or related field or equivalent experience.
-Five to ten years of experience in Information Technology industry, including two to five years of experience in an Information Technology consulting or senior role.
-Five + years working in Large Scale IBM Pseries server environment
-Advanced knowledge of AIX, Solaris and Linux.
-Experience with IBM Pseries LPARs and HMC
-Experience with large server migration/consolidation efforts within multiple datacenter environments
-Experience with advanced network storage concepts and solutions (SANs).
-Demonstrated ability to communicate (verbal and written) with all levels of internal and external customers. Demonstrated presentation skills; demonstrated planning and organizing skills.
-Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member.
-Demonstrated ability to set priorities and to respond to changing demands from multiple sources. Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment in applying established techniques, procedures or standards; demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
-Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills.
-Ability to develop strategic technical documentation and written communications relative to field of expertise (white papers, standards documents, procedural documents, FAQs)
-Ability to respond to issues and concerns 24 hours a day; ability to work additional hours; and flexibility to travel, domestically and internationally 5% of time with periods in excess of three weeks.
