Uptime Institute Professional Services, the engineering and management consulting arm of the Institute, works in close collaboration with the Uptime Institute to address technical aspects of contemporary data center issues. Independent of any Engineer-of-Record or manufacturer affiliation, Uptime Institute Professional Services works with clients to develop and to execute solutions that are responsive to their unique business needs. Uptime Institute Professional Services consultants are senior level, licensed, multi-disciplined, and experienced data center engineering and operational professionals As the creators of the Tier Classification System and subsequent Tier Program, Uptime Institute Professional Services is uniquely qualified to deliver Tier Certifications and data center assessments across all industries and worldwide.

Position Description:  

Consultant responsible for working with data center owners, operators, engineers, and client senior management in order to provide unparalleled mission critical environment consulting related to facility infrastructure. Duties include conducting reviews of data center designs, documentation, or built environments to determine compliance with owner’s stated Tier functionality objectives and long-term operations goals. Develop narrative-based reports, memos, or other deliverables that, in a clear, concise, and accurate fashion, document both shortcomings and solutions to achieving owner’s expected outcomes. Meet with data center teams, as required, to discuss findings and recommendations regarding all critical subsystems and their operation. Develop Tier Standard-based requirements documents for new data center facilities or major upgrades. Evaluate the following data center subsystems:          


·        Utility

·        Engine-Generator Plant

·        Power Backbone

·        UPS Systems

·        Battery Systems

·        Critical Power Distribution

·        Cooling Plant

·        Computer Room Cooling

·        Fire Detection

·        Fire Suppression

·        Physical Security

·        Loadbanks

·        Building and Electrical Control systems

·        Lightning Protection

·        Grounding

·        Fuel Storage and Distribution

Requirements

In order to be successful in this position, Uptime Institute Professional Services is looking for candidates with the following credentials and experience: 

·        5+ years of hands-on data center development, management, operation or 5 years of multiple size and functionality data center design;

·        A Professional Engineering license in a related engineering field (electrical, mechanical, civil, other);

·        A desire for domestic and international travel;

·        A motivation to learn detailed aspects of data center operations in order to advance in the company.
