SALES REPRESENTATIVE & SALES– I am a recruiter. Various Fortune 500 companies, certain large regional sales firms and even some local sales organizations contract me to work as their recruiting department as they seek to attract the best of the college graduate work force as these firms have a desire to add members to their sales forces. These positions are in Houston, TX and sometimes Austin or San Antonio. Many of my openings are for Entry Level sales people.
I began work as a recruiter for Williams Personnel/Windsor Consultants Inc in Houston, TX, in May of 1979, so this gives me 30 plus years of experience in doing this work for these firms, and other firms, during my tenure.
Sales is an area where credentials take a back seat to attitude, focus and direction. My companies do require a degree and 0 to 5 years of sales/work experience and as well they want the individual who worked their way through college with summer jobs and internships. But those credentials will only get the foot in the door for an interview. Once in the interview, the candidate must display selling skills and also display an attitude that screams of motivation, screams of work ethic and screams of a devotion to getting a job finished and then looking for the next job to undertake.
The companies I recruit for are looking for the individual that puts career either third or fourth in matter of importance. By this I mean, they look for the person that after God (if religious), family and country….career comes first. These companies look for that person that stays as long as the job needs doing.
Now, when they find this person they attract them with salaries, commissions, bonuses, training, benefits, expenses and promotions. Remember, these companies are the large firms and they are the companies that will invest in training you and will develop you to succeed. Heck they are going to pay me a rather large fee just to attract you.
