Description
Position Summary: Maintains the ordering and stocking of medications and supplies as needed in the clinic. Under supervision of Head Nurse, prepares and mixes medications. Coordinates with drug sales representatives, and pharmaceutical companies to obtain samples, teaching aids, and compassionate drugs. Acts as liaison between Physicians, Nursing, Pharmacy Supervisor and Purchasing in obtaining special order medications.
Requirements
Required Qualifications: Minimum of 3 years experience in the healthcare field, preferably in a clinical setting as a Pharmacy Technician. Medical terminology. Attention to detail. Fluency in the English language as well as strong communication skills to interact with a wide variety of personalities. Must be willing to travel occasionally to educational and research meetings as well as training sessions. Valid Florida Drivers License for travel to clinics is required. Certification as Pharmacy Technician is desirable. **Admixture experience is a must.**
Key Performance Areas:
1. Under supervision of Head Nurse, mixes chemotherapy drugs and solutions as prescribed by Physicians.
2. Contacts drug representatives and pharmaceutical companies to obtain samples, compassionate drugs, and education materials.
3. Maintains necessary records pertaining to compassionate drugs.
4. Maintains necessary records pertaining to Clinical Study Trials, if applicable.
5. Maintains necessary documentation pertaining to ambulatory pumps.
6. Responsible for daily and annual maintenance of Chemotherapy hood.
7 Responsible for safe and compliant disposal of Biohazardous waste, if applicable. Maintains receipts pertaining to biohazard waste pick-up and ensures Accounting Office receives the receipt, if applicable.
8. Will have thorough knowledge of Nucleus medication dispensing system. Work with Pharmacy Supervisor to ensure par levels are maintained to assure sufficient stock and minimize waste.
9. Will assist in training of new nurses and pharmacy technicians in all aspects of preparation of chemotherapeutic medications. Assist in training regarding the Nucleus dispensing system.
10. Responsible for ordering, stocking and dispensing medical supplies as listed on the Medical Supply Sheet.
11. Review orders for next day with nursing staff to identify special drug needs.
12. Meetings: Attend annual Safety/OSHA training meetings. Attend all mandatory staff meetings as necessary.
13. Maintain and ensure the confidentiality of all patient and employee information at all times.
14. Assist in training new employees to related job duties.
15. Will be expected to work at any FCS location to help meet FCS business needs.
16. Will be expected to work overtime when given sufficient notice of required overtime.
17. Complies with all federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to patient privacy, patient’s rights, personnel law, safety, labor, and employment law. Adheres to FCS and departmental policies and procedures, including IT policies and procedures and Disaster Recovery Plan.
