About Us:

 

The Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California is a federally recognized Indian Tribe organized pursuant to the Indian Reorganization Act of June 18, 1934, as amended. The Tribe has four communities, three in Nevada (Stewart, Carson, and Dresslerville), and one in California (Woodfords). There is also a Washoe community located within the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony. The Tribe has jurisdiction over trust allotments in both Nevada and California, with additional Tribal Trust parcels located in Alpine, Placer, Sierra, Douglas, Carson, and Washoe Counties.

 

Job Description for WIEC Manager:


The Washoe Tribe Human Resource Department is currently accepting applications from Individuals who may be qualified to perform the position described below: Position Summary: Under the direct supervision the WIEC Manager is responsible for administering all operations of the Woodfords Indian Education Center and its component programs. Supervises center staff, approves budgeted expenditures, prepares funding proposals, reports and budgets. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information. The list of duties and responsibilities is illustrative only of the tasks performed by this position and is not all-inclusive.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities for WIEC Manager:

 

  • Facilitates program planning, and self-review
  • Represents WIEC and communicates with Tribal and Community Council and other entities as needed.
  • Plans, organizes and directs multiple program elements and activities.
  • Develops organizational programs and systems in order to improve overall services rendered.
  • Monitors data collection for evaluation purposes.
  • Works closely with school, local, and Tribal offices in an effort to organize programs, which enhance the educational, cultural and social opportunities of Indian students.
  • Provides career and employment counseling to high school and interested post-secondary students.
  • Monitors daily student activities and staff interaction.
  • Coordinates high school, junior high and elementary after school tutoring activities for WIEC participants.
  • Prepares, coordinates and recommends budget proposals, applications, expenditures, and justification for assigned programs in coordination with the Tribal Grants office and the Woodfords Council.
  • Facilitates program planning, long-range calendars, self-review (required by CDE) and evaluation.
  • Reviews progress of operations and monitors contract and grant compliance within the guidelines and completion dates established by the funding agency.
  • Meets with, counsels, and advises Indian students in either a group setting or on an individual basis concerning academic achievement, attendance, decision making, improvement of self-image, self-esteem, values clarification and communication skills.
  • Meets with official liaison from public schools and other agencies concerning the specific problems of individual Indian Students, in order to more accurately understand the nature of the problem, causes , and possible approaches for solving problems.
  • Attends California Department of Education American Indian Educational Office, University of California Office of the President Math Engineering Science Achievement meeting and takes the lead role in communicating with primary WIEC funding agencies.
  • Makes referrals to social services or child welfare caseworker of children considered to be at high risk due to an unsatisfactory home life or poor educational performance as a result of a serious problem
  • Responsible for the completion of employee performance evaluations, for those employees assigned under direct supervision.
  • Hosts regular staff meetings to ensure communication among personnel regarding program-related activities.
  • Communicates with funding agendas.
  • Assists with cultural and leadership activities.
  • Supervises maintenance and use of WIEC computer lab, vehicles, facility and library.
  • Performs other duties as required.

 Minimum Qualification for WIEC Manager :

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education
  • Counseling or directly related field and two years of experience as a classroom certified teacher or instructor, or as a counselor of students or similar individuals; or a combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid California or Nevada driver’s license or capable of obtaining one within thirty-days(30) of employment. Must be able to be insurable by the Tribe’s Driving policy.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background investigation

 

 Knowledge, Abilities, Skills and Certifications:

 

  • Knowledge of traditional form of government and tribal customs and traditions.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, county and local laws, regulations and requirements. Knowledge of the principles, practices and methods of elementary and middle school curriculum development, and management and programming.
  • Knowledge of administrative and project management.
  • Knowledge of records management procedures. Knowledge of development, preparation and control of budgets.
  • Knowledge of managerial and statistical analysis techniques and reporting procedures. Knowledge of business English, proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, and basic arithmetic. Ability to communicate effectively in the English , both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional relationship with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals and demonstrates leadership and team-building skills with empathy and enthusiasm.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to analyze situations and adopt appropriate course of action .
  • Ability to work independently and meet strict time lines.
  • Ability to make solid decisions and exercise independent judgment.
  • Ability to identify and secure alternative funding or revenue sources.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to demonstrate moral character, honesty , tact , fairness, lack of prejudice, and desire to help when dealing with people.
  • Ability to prepare accurate, complete , and legible reports and create and present detailed, accurate, objective, and effective speeches and presentations.
  • Ability to interpret applicable federal, state, county and local laws, regulations, requirements , ordinances and legislations.
  • Skill in operating business computers and office machines, including in a windows environment , specially word, Excel, Access , and presentation software( such as power point).
  • Skill in analyzing problem , projecting consequences, identifying solutions, and implementing recommendations.
  • Skill in preparation of project time lines and staffing plans.
  • Skill in budget preparation and administration.
  • Skill in preparing , reviewing , and analyzing operational and financial reports.
  • Skill in providing leadership to , supervising , training and evaluation assigned staff.
  • Certified in First Aid and CPR.,
