General Description:

The Director of Technology's role is to ensure the streamlined operation of systems in alignment with the business objectives of the organization.  The director will plan, coordinate projects, direct and design the systems required for the organization, as well as provide administrative direction and support for daily operational activities of the systems.  The director will define and implement IT policies, procedures and best practices. The director will also be required to provide hands on support and installations as required.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the daily operations of production systems and the execution of daily and monthly processes.
  • Manage the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade and support of all IT systems, including telecommunications, servers, PCs, operating systems, hardware, software, peripherals and Office Automation equipment.
  • Benchmark, analyze, report on and make recommendations for the improvement and growth of the IT and telephony infrastructure and systems.
  • Communicate with the user community and management to keep them aware of all IT issues that may impact them.
  • Develop and implement IT Policies and procedures for architecture, security, disaster recovery and standards.
  • Maintain and manage an inventory of all systems, software and equipment.
  • Manage the test, training and production environments.
  • Evaluate new systems and software as required.
  • Respond to user problems and questions
  • Update the operating systems and manage memory usage, network printing, disk space and technical resources.
Requirements Education, Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree and four years of related work experience.
  • Strong technical knowledge of telecommunications, network and PC operating systems.
  • Strong technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols and standards.
  • Proven experience in IT infrastructure planning and development.
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Strong understanding of Human resource management principles, practices and procedures.
  • Strong understanding of project management principals.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to present ideas in a business-friendly environment.
  • High level of self-motivation.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Proven analytical, evaluative and proven problem-solving abilities.
  • Exceptional customer service orientation.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Ability to lead both technical and non-technical personnel.


Work Conditions:

  • On-call availability 24x7
  • Sitting for long period of times
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a keyboard, mouse, power tools and to handle computer components.
  • Ability to inspect or install cables in floors and ceilings.
  • Lifting and transporting moderately heavy objects, such as computers and peripherals.
