About Us

CADES was originally founded in 1951 as United Cerebral Palsy of Delaware County when a small group of parents met to establish a registration of all those with cerebral palsy in Delaware County to study their needs and to work towards meeting these needs. While continuing our commitment to serve individuals with cerebral palsy, we have grown to provide a continuum of services to support people with a wide variety of disabilities and their families.

What are Residential Programs?

Community living arrangements (CLA) were developed to provide care for disabled individuals in small community settings rather than placing them in an institution. Children and Adult Disability and Educational Services operates various CLA's in Delaware, Chester and Bucks Counties. The Community Residential program uses Principles of Self-Determination and Quality Assurance Standards, along with a variety of other areas to assist in effective care for consumers. The purpose of the program is to develop an individual program to meet each person's needs and develop their full potential. An integral part of the program is teaching individuals to make choices and integrate into the community in which they live.

Most residences are single family dwellings although we do own some condominiums and rent some apartments. The residential programs are staffed with individuals, such as our Direct Care Residentials / Direct Support Professionals, who are trained in Quality Assurance Standards and a variety of other areas to assist them in effectively caring for the consumers.
