Description Sterile Processing Education Coordinator - Sterile Processing - First Hill

This is a regular, salaried, variable hour, day shift position, 1.00 FTE, 40 hours per week.

Salary Scale: Placement within the scale is dependent upon years of work experience. The salary scale is reviewed on an annual basis for market comparison and may change with the market.

Schedule: Monday - Friday. Variable hours.

The Sterile Processing Education Coordinator has oversight responsibility for assuring proper training and development of SPD and other related staff for all Swedish Medical Center (SMC) locations. Responsibilities include: assessing the initial training and on-going development needs of SPD staff, developing and managing effective employee orientation and continuous training programs (including “train the trainer” programs), implementing/delivering training programs to staff, developing and managing employee competency verification, auditing the effectiveness of staff learning and develop interventional training as needed, and maintaining a calendar of education updates and trends in Sterile Processing and related fields. Works collaboratively with SPD leadership to assure employee training and related performance issues are addressed effectively and proactively.

Requirements Bachelor’s degree in adult education, teaching or related field; or equivalent combination of related education and experience.

There are no legal requirements. Current certification through healthcare industry recognized organizations such as IAHCSMM (International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management) or ASHCSP (American Society for Healthcare Central Services Professionals) is required.

Minimum five years related experience with surgical instrumentation training and/or management in hospital SPD, Central Services or Operating Room environment required. Minimum three years experience in an adult education role with emphasis on department orientation, individual employee training, and development of staff in-service education programs required. Demonstrated skills in curriculum development, course delivery, and policy/procedure document creation/ maintenance. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret related professional journals and periodicals, technical procedures, financial reports, and government/regulatory regulations. Ability to write and maintain current effective training plans and programs, procedure manuals, reports, and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from diverse groups of employees, managers and vendors. Ability to practically apply math skills such as factions, percentages, and ratio calculations. Ability to determine test reliability and variance analysis, determines correlation techniques, sampling theory and factor analysis. Demonstrated ability to apply sound reasoning and logic to work situations. Demonstrated ability to select and train individuals with an aptitude for success in training others. Demonstrated communication skills to effectively provide training performance feedback, including development of action plans to address training performance deficiencies.
