Ontario Systems is seeking a results focused individual for the position of Manager, Revenue Accounting, at its Muncie, Indiana location. The individual chosen for this position will be a valued partner with the business, empowering the organization with timely, high quality information and services that support successful execution of the Company’s strategy.
The selected individual will manage the accounting team responsible for all activity and reporting related to customer invoicing, revenue recognition, and related cost of goods sold. This individual will be fully engaged with the sales team through contract negotiations and communicate implications of contract language and terms to revenue recognition, offering alternative solutions where available. He/she will serve as the internal accounting expert for revenue recognition, providing ongoing training and guidance on revenue recognition policies and procedures. We expect this individual to ensure 100% of the company’s revenue recognition is in compliance with GAAP.
The successful candidate will:
1. Build and lead a highly effective team.
2. Become a valued partner to the management team by providing in-house expertise on revenue recognition, along with ongoing leadership and guidance.
3. Fully understand and document the various revenue models used by the Company.
4. Lead training sessions on revenue recognition rules, policies and practices to sales and other departments.
5. Ensure accurate and timely recording of all revenue and cost of goods sold from data capture, analysis, and recording in the GL for reporting.
6. Manage monthly financial closing process for revenue and cost of goods sold.
7. Manage all aspects of revenue recognition, including:
a. review contracts, sales orders and purchase orders to assess proper revenue recognition treatment, including:
i. perform fair value analysis for multiple element arrangement
ii. Exercise judgment within defined policies and authoritative literature to determine appropriate action related to revenue-related transactions and write related technical memos
iii. Perform periodic audits of orders for proper revenue recognition, data entry and billing accuracy
b. implement revenue recognition reporting and process improvements based on industry trends, authoritative literature and business objectives
c. Monitor relevant US GAAP and SEC developments to ensure recognition policies and procedures are in compliance
d. Participate in revenue forecasting procedures.
8. Be engaged on product profitability projects.
9. Lead weekly contract review meetings.
Qualifications include:
Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in Accounting or other related area is required; or equivalent combination of education and experience; CPA is preferred. Minimum of 3 years of management experience required. Must demonstrate expertise level of knowledge in revenue recognition. Experience with Microsoft Office products is required; knowledge of Oracle is preferred. Demonstrated knowledge in accounting guidelines for revenue recognition is required; software industry experience is highly preferred. Demonstrated ability to build and lead an effective team. Demonstrated focus on accuracy, detail, meeting deadlines and handling multiple projects simultaneously. Demonstrated excellent reasoning, decision-making and problem solving skills.
