BASIC FUNCTION

This position is responsible for the safe manufacture (batch mixing) of water-based adhesives and microspheres/dualite for industrial use, quality control for insuring product meets specifications and for packaging of the end product.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Follows established formulas for mixing products on all mixers in the department.  Follows written processing instructions to run computer driven heaters, loss-in-weight feeders, blenders, expanders, sifters, dry material transfer equipment and automated packaging equipment.

Meters in raw materials, lifts and dumps containers/bags of materials into hoppers and tanks to create batches of material.

Pulls required sample and tests per batch ticket specifications in accordance with ISO standards.  Able to adjust the process variables to maintain quality production, based on test results and processing instructions.

Completes necessary paperwork, batch recordkeeping in accordance with ISO standards and enters data into SAP.

Operates high lift truck and hoist to transport material.

Cleans mixing tanks, draw-off filters, piping, parts, dry material blenders and feeders, etc. in accordance with ISO cleaning procedures.

Fills containers with completed mixes, palletizes and transports to storage area using motorized equipment.

Maintains work area in a neat, organized and clean manner at all times.  Must follow 5S standard of housekeeping.

Reports abnormal conditions of mixes and machines to Plant Supervisor.

Performs various other duties as assigned by the Production Supervisor or Plant Manager.

The activities of this position have the potential to have significant environmental impact.  Conformance with all Health, Safety and Environmental Management System policies and procedures is mandatory.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Knowledge of computer/scanner applications


• Calculate simple math


• Able to follow written instructions for QC test procedures


• Work on multiple tasks simultaneously


• Walk/stand approximately 90% of the time


• Drive high lift truck - including use of steps and sitting during operation


• Must be able to control hand levers on both sides and use control pedals


• Must be able to lift/carry/pour 50 lbs. frequently, including going up steps


• Twist knobs, pull levers, turn valves, push control buttons, attach hose connections, line containers with plastic bags from box or roll, hold and dip sample jar, use scraper to fill sample jar, use scissors crimper to apply lids and cut open bags of chemicals


• Must be able to pass medical clearance to wear half face respirator with cartridges and dust mask


• Must apply personal protective equipment including half mask face respirator, particulate dust mask, hearing protection and frequent changes of latex and/or heavy rubber gloves


• Will be willing to work in the presence of environmental conditions such as fumes, dust, heights, chemicals, odors and noise.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

• Prior experience in a chemical batch mixing industry preferred


• Must be a self-starter who requires little direct supervision


• Moderate PLC experience
