Job Description 

The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) for Evidence-Based Practice (EBP), provides leadership for the advancement of professional nursing practice and clinical nursing. Major emphases will be on operationalizing evidence-based practice and supporting professional practice initiatives.

The CNS plays a leadership role in integrating EBP and practice guidelines, as established by nursing specialty groups or other health care agencies, into clinical, educational, and professional development activities. In collaboration with other CNSs, she/he facilitates the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of clinical practice standards. She/he analyzes nursing care practice and evaluates patient outcomes to ensure practice standards and clinical programming to meet identified patient outcomes. He/she analyzes clinical variances and establishes nursing practice standards consistent with EBP. Responsibilities include collaboration with nursing and physician leaders as well as other care providers to ensure well-coordinated, multidisciplinary programs of care. The incumbent works closely with other CNS staff to facilitate continuity of care across settings and to provide staff education and support clinical program development.

The CNS possesses an expert clinical knowledge and skill set. She/he ensures quality patient care by assuring EBP as well as the development and mentorship of nursing staff. She/he applies an extensive knowledge of clinical practice in working with staff members to ensure the progressive development of clinical judgment. The incumbent provides support to clinical learning through mentorship, clinical rounds, role modeling and practice evaluation.

The CNS assesses staff and clinical practice issues to develop overall programmatic goals and objectives in collaboration with nursing leadership and under the general supervision of the Director, Nursing Practice Innovation.75% Monday-Friday Days. 


Job Requirements 

Education-

Minimum: Master's Degree in Nursing in relevant specialty

Work Experience-

Minimum: Three years of relevant clinical nursing experience

Preferred:Previous experience as Clinical Nurse Specialist

Experience in academic medical center

Licenses & Certifications-

Minimum: RN licensure in the State of WI

Certification in area of specialty

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

1.Knowledge and experience in development, implementation, and evaluation of clinical programs.

2.Knowledge and experience in evidence-based approach to practice and standards/guidelines development.

3.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
