Summary
The Director of Procurement and Inventory Operations will oversee and provide strategic leadership for all direct material procurement and inventory control activities at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publishing Company. Position scope includes a $285+ million annual spend and $500+ million in inventory responsibility.
The Director of Procurement and Inventory Operations will lead an organization of approximately 50 employees. The individual will partner with Demand Planning, Supply Planning, Program Management and Distribution teams to drive cost savings initiatives, including off-shoring.
As a member of the HMH Global Supply Chain leadership team, the Director of Procurement and Inventory operations will be an integral part of establishing the vision and strategy for the organization.
Duties:
� Responsible for development and implementation of purchasing organizational design, staffing, strategies, processes, policies, budgets, goals/objectives, and enabling technology infrastructure.
� Provides strategies and plans for long and short-term procurement of direct materials, assuring availability of materials at acceptable prices while controlling inventory levels.
� Reviews and ensures that the appropriate financial metrics are monitored and that proper fiscal controls are in place to maximize cost savings throughout Procurement and Inventory Operations.
� Provide leadership to the organization so that the function is fully aligned with HMH�s goals and objectives.
� Drive cost reduction activities to meet the firm�s financial goals/priorities; including partnering with all areas across the company to identify areas for cost savings, ensuring the Procurement department is involved in all buying decisions across the company.
� Lead performance improvement programs/initiatives throughout the organization.
� Develop and maintain strategic alliances with all direct material vendors.
Education/Experience:
� 10+ years experience in Supply Chain or Procurement required
� Minimum of 4 years experience in a Management
� Self-starter with a proven track record of developing and executing change in a complex environment
� Excellent organizational and analytical skills
� Demonstrated knowledge and user experience with SAP R/3, Excel, Access, and Word
� 50+% Travel Required
� Experience in the publishing industry strongly desired
