Title/Position Summary
Director of User Experience/User Interface/Site Construction
- The Director of Online User Experience/User Interface formulates the online experience strategy and leads the development of the new ecommerce consumer experience for Scholastic
- Will be a champion for Customer Driven Innovations
- The Director of User Interface/Experience will have extensive experience in design and user research and be able to demonstrate an ability to apply strategic thinking and business goals to the user experience
Responsibilities
- Lead discovery sessions and assist in defining business requirements, discover user personas/archetype and interpret user goals/priorities
- Serve as an expert consultant during the detailed design phase by reviewing interaction design, copy, and visual design for usability best practices
- Conduct both formal or guerilla user research
- Plan, facilitate and manage usability evaluation through usability labs, paper and live questionnaires, live interviews, surveys and benchmark testing
- Conduct audits of existing systems and websites, based on clarity and usability best practices, and prepare reports of findings and improvement recommendations
- Develop detailed site maps that will define the page hierarchy, navigation schema, taxonomy and nomenclature
- Architect complies content and information systems into usage scenarios and use cases, wireframes, content outlines, mockups/storyboards, interaction notes, as well as paper and interactive prototypes
- Develop content and workflow maps indicating process and systems implications, navigation and content relationships
- Provide heuristic evaluations and reviews of early visual mockups and/or prototype designs
- Develop standards, methodologies, and repeatable processes for delivery of UX services
- Partner with Art Directors, Research, Analytics, Search Specialists, technical Leads, Copywriters and other Interactive Marketing team members on strategies for clients
- Mentor less experienced team members
Job Qualifications/Requirements
Ability to bring depth of functional and technical experience along with the personal qualities well suited for the challenge. Specifically, the successful candidate should possess:
- At least 7 years experience in UX initiatives, ideally in B2B web oriented company
- A thorough and up-to-date knowledge of user-interface design principle. Knowledge of human factors, user-centered design processes, interaction design guidelines, usability methodologies, industry standards and trends, platform standards
- Substantial online experience ideally in environments that have transformed their business models to embrace the Web as a value-added channel
- A general management orientation is critical. The successful candidate must be capable of interacting with internal business customers and firm technology teams and outside providers to identify innovation opportunities
- Proven ability to design and lead discovery activities including stakeholder interviews, user inquiry, website and business performance metric audits
- Hands-on experience with project deliverables-discovery findings, heuristic evaluations, information architecture, wireframes, interaction specifications, user interface guides, etc.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong understanding and application of Web technologies
- Experience designing and leading user research and/or translating user research into design decisions
- Experience or interest in content management, business and other back-end technologies
- Strong analytic and strategic problem-solving skills
- Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Engineering (or related technical discipline)
