Job Description

An individual committed to promoting and insuring innovation and teaching excellence in the DeVry University Online environment will fill the position of Faculty Management Manager.   Primary duties include responsibility for developing continuing online faculty through the development and delivery of their courses and supervising the faculty managers on their team.  This position will work closely with online academic team members, online faculty and DeVry University academic staff.

 

 

 A. Faculty and Course Development

  • Assist with the preparation and presentation of continuing DeVry University Online faculty workshops and meetings
  • Develop, test and present innovative enhancements to online courses
  • Develop online faculty and help build a sense of community and excitement within the DeVry University Online faculty group
  • Identify and share new practices and teaching tools that enhance course content, improve online teaching effectiveness, and increase instructor productivity
  • Act as a general resource person for assigned faculty members
  • Conduct focused faculty conference calls with course/program-specific faculty members
  • Participate in the design, development and implementation of overall course, faculty and faculty development process improvement programs.

 B. Pre-Term Course and Faculty Preparation

  • Review all continuing faculty courses for the upcoming term for content and enhancement opportunities
  • Communicate course delivery needs, schedules and improvement ideas with continuing faculty through phone, e-mail, checklists, online forums and other support tools
  • Monitor "watch list" courses that need improvement in content, working with the instructor to improve the course before the upcoming term
  • Support and guide continuing faculty members who are developing or rebuilding courses
  • Encourage faculty members to incorporate "best practices" in their courses
  • Coach faculty members who have earned low evaluations in previous terms

 C. Current-Term Continuing Faculty Support

  • Maintain communications with continuing faculty throughout the term, guiding, encouraging and suggesting new ideas and improvement practices
  • Visit each course early in the term to insure effective course delivery
  • Monitor "watch list" courses that need improvement in delivery, working with the instructor to improve the course during the current term
  • Spot check courses, looking for delivery problems
  • Assist faculty members with using online technology tools
  • Test and evaluate new online teaching tools and methods
  • Spot check final exams where we believe we may have a quality problem
  • Follow-up on student complaints about course quality and delivery issues
  • Review course evaluations for both overall issues and specific problems

 D. Academic FIS

  • Conduct class visits for online faculty members as required by central academic policy
  • Monitor and report on observed progress of continuing faculty relating to academic rigor

E.   General Administrative

  • Participates in DeVry University Online and School wide projects.
  • Participates in regular and special DeVry University Online Academic Team meetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

F.   Oversee the faculty manager team

  • Coordinate the work of the faculty managers on the team.
  • Insure the members of the team are trained in all aspects of the position and faculty management processes.
  • Insure the timeliness and accuracy of the work of the department.
  • Recommend process improvements for the department

 

  • Must possess a minimum of a master's degree from a regionally accredited institution and currently hold the position of a faculty manger. 
  • Have earned a minimum composite faculty evaluation score of 3.30 from prior DeVry University Online teaching experiences
  • High-level training, communications and organizational skills
  • Online computer technology skills
  • Online course development and teaching skills
  • Ability to work effectively and productively in a remote location
