The Network Engineer is responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the networking processes across a large Healthcare Organization - implementing, managing and troubleshooting existing network and system environments, and supporting a variety of Cisco equipment and other hardware. Engineer will also ensure that the performance and availability of network infrastructure is maintained to the highest standards in order that maximum productivity is achieved (99.99 uptime). Engineer will be expected to support users by a variety of methods, and will be required to provide technical expertise to users by verbal or written means. Provide 24-7 on-call support for the UMASS Memorial Healthcare network infrastructure and associated devices. Maintain and troubleshoot Cisco Catalysts 3500/4500/6500 series routers/switches, 11501/11503 Cisco Content Switches, Cisco Adaptive Security Appliances, Cisco 3020 VPN Concentrators and other Cisco and non-Cisco devices.
Skills/Experience:
2+yrs Hands-On experience as a Network Engineer with Cisco 6500. Experience with HSRP, 802.1Q, Spanning Tree, IP subnetting, IP Routing and Wireless-LWAPP preferred.
1 yr Experience in Network Design.
Demonstrated Cisco Certified Networking Professional abilities
1 yr Experience with Network Security is preferred-specifically Cisco PIX and Checkpoint/Nokia platforms.
Strong hands-on technical knowledge of network equipment, including Cisco routers and switches.
Strong Troubleshooting abilities.
IP Routing utilizing BGP and/or EIGRP a must.
Working technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and Internet standards
Able to conduct research into networking issues and products as required with proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Able to effectively prioritize tasks in a high-pressure environment with strong customer service orientation and experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
Ability to teach and mentor junior engineers to maximize potential and provide a firm foundation in network troubleshooting skills
Knowledge of:
Spanning Tree Protocol (absolute must for any candidate)
IP Subnetting should be a 2 on a scale of 1-5
Wireless configuration and troubleshooting would be a plus but not a prerequisite
CCNA would be nice for the junior engineer
Routing with EIGRP should be a 1+ so familiarization and some command line
Attention to detail is the one of the biggest pluses along with common sense for an engineer.
Ability to articulate thoughts and ideas on the white board
