Work with a great team of providers and medical staff in our busy Urgent Care Department at St. Michael's Hospital.  This position gives you the opportunity to learn and enhance your patient care skills.  You will work independently and be a part of our experienced team.

 

Hours are variable (day, evening, or night shift)/4 shifts per month and includes weekends and holidays.

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

Function as a team member under the direction of the nurse manager and/or RN in carrying out tasks.  The EMT assists the RN in implementation of the plan of care.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demonstrates knowledge and use of instruments and supplies utilized in Urgent Care setting.
  • Participates in plans identified by department to enhance patient satisfaction. 
  • Works collaboratively and efficiently with providers and team members 

MAJOR TASKS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Orthopedic procedures: Apply knee immobilizers, soft collars, slings, clavicle straps, splints, etc.
  • Sterile procedures: Surgical preps, dressings, catheterizations, etc.
  • CODE BLUE: Assist with cardiac compressions.
  • Lift and transport patients.
  • Vital sign monitoring.
  • If intermediate level EMT, may start IV's under the direction of an RN or physician.
  • Set up instrument trays according to procedure and physician preference.
  • Restraining violent or disturbed patients.
  • Enter orders and messages into computer.

AGE OF PATIENT CARED FOR: Infant, Toddler, Child, Adolescent,  Adult, Older Adult.

 


job Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Graduate of an approved EMT program or CNA program
  • Previous Nursing Assistant or EMT experience preferred
  • Current National Registration of Emergency Medical Technicians
  • Current Wisconsin Emergency Medical Technician licensure or Registered with State of Wisconsin for Nursing Assistants
  • CPR/BLS certification within one year of employment
