Position Overview: The Clinical Pharmacy Manager is responsible for the provision of safe, effective, appropriate and cost-efficient medication therapy to patients at facility. The Clinical Pharmacy Manager ensures that pharmacists and pharmacy technicians receive ongoing training, competency assessment and performance improvement activities to improve delivery of pharmaceutical care to patients at facility. The Clinical Pharmacy Manager is the primary interface between the Department of Pharmacy Services and hospital committees (medical staff, nursing, etc.) coordinating medication use policies and procedures. The Clinical Pharmacy Manager also facilitates and manages facility-wide and the Director of Clinical Services – CompleteRx, Ltd, may direct corporate-wide clinical pharmacy programs/initiatives as. The Clinical Pharmacy Manager is able to practice basic pharmacy distribution as demands of department may require.
Responsibilities: A. Assures safe, appropriate, cost effective medication therapies for patients according to established policies, procedures and protocols under general direction of Director of Pharmacy1. Develops, enforces and maintains policies and procedures that promote and enhance patient outcomes through safe, effective, cost-efficient and appropriate medication therapy use. 2. Assists in development and maintenance of a formulary approved by the medical staff.3. Coordinates programs designed to minimize medication errors, adverse drug reactions and medication misuse through improved reporting, analysis and follow-up through hospital committees and departments involved in the medication use process.4. Coordinates, facilitates and promotes education, training, competency assessment and performance improvement of pharmacists, technicians and healthcare professionals in the medication use process.5. Serves as principal advisor and/or member of hospital committees involved in medication use (Pharmacy and Therapeutics, Infection Control, Laboratory/Pathology, etc.).6. Coordinates policies and procedures concerning pharmaceutical manufacturer representatives in hospital.7. Coordinates and maintains appropriate high-quality and current drug information resources for pharmacists and other healthcare professionals.8. Displays personal initiative and advocacy of clinical pharmacy programs, planning and services to foster and improve inter- and intra-professional communications with appropriate attention and management of existing facility mission, vision and values.9. Prepares appropriate reports and follow-up documentation to the Director of Clinical Services – CompleteRx, Ltd., Director of Pharmacy and facility.10. Maintains professional knowledge and skills related to clinical pharmacy through participation in selected pharmacy organization(s).11. Performs other related duties as assigned by Director of Pharmacy.B. Contributes to the quality and effective operation of the department.1. Supervises pharmacy personnel as assigned by Director of Pharmacy. 2. Assists with development of job descriptions and performance standards relating to Clinical Pharmacy. Assists in evaluation and counseling of pharmacy staff members as assigned. 3. Prepares work schedules and monitors workload statistics. Maintains an appropriate staffing level. 4. Provides for the educational needs of the pharmacy staff.5. Prepares a pharmacy budget annually. 6. Reviews monthly financial statistics and plans expenditures within budget guidelines. 7. Monitors and justifies all expenses exceeding budgeted targets.8. Ensures preparation and submission of patient charges and financial reports to administration in accordance with hospital policy.9. Administers reports, documents, payroll records, statistical surveys and other required data. 10. Ensures compliance with hospital policies and procedures that apply to pharmacy services. Ensures compliance with all applicable Federal, State and local laws, rules and regulations.C. Integrates the department into the organization’s primary functions.1. Develops and implements a strategic plan for the pharmacy that supports the mission and goals of the organization.2. Develops and implements pharmacy services in collaboration with associated department services.3. Develops, implements and maintains a program that improves the quality of pharmacy services and supports the quality improvement plan of the organization.4. Participates in all committees/functions required by the organization including the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee. 5. Establishes productive collaborative relationships with physicians, other hospital staff and within the community.D. Maintains competency required for current job title/position.1. Maintains current pharmacist license. Ensures applicable CE records and licensure are maintained in department files. Attends management meetings. Sustains professional competency and promotes development through participation in inservices, workshops, seminars and professional organizations.2. Fosters a team environment by providing appropriate training and orientation of pharmacy team members as assigned by Director of Pharmacy. Assists coworkers in tasks as time permits.10. Adheres to hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Complies with all applicable Federal and State laws, rules and regulations. III. Organizational Standards 1. Performance indicates improved pharmaceutical care to patients demonstrated through satisfaction, concern toward lower cost, and improvement in quality of clinical pharmacy services delivered to facility’s patients.2. Graduate of an ACPE accredited School of Pharmacy with a BS Pharmacy degree or higher degree. BS with ASHP accredited residency and two years experience or Pharm.D. or MS (Clinical/Hospital Pharmacy)Currently licensed to practice pharmacy in state of employment1-2 years hospital clinical pharmacy experience preferred, with 1-2 years in a management position required. Ability to use drug information resources (especially print, computer, internet, etc.) Proficiency in data collection and analysis, with ability in presentation and instructional skills to diverse audiences.
