Lehigh Hanson is seeking a qualified Tax Accountant for its Irving, TX location.
 
The Tax Accountant in the Shared Service Center group will prepare multi-state sales and use tax and property tax returns of varying degrees of complexity where Lehigh Hanson has a filing requirement and related tax matters. This position will also assist in the completion of ancillary schedules used for budgeting and forecasting. The Tax Accountant will also prepare unclaimed property returns and assist in audit defense for various transaction and other miscellaneous taxes.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES and TASKS

Deliver results individually and as a key team member in a fast paced, high performance culture.
Meet or exceed standards of excellence established for the department.
Prepare sales and use tax returns of varying degrees of complexity.
Provide support in sales and use tax, property and fuel tax audits.
Coordinate the timely and accurate compliance with various governmental reporting requirements.
Prepare monthly tax accruals entries as needed.
Ensure the timely updating of the sales and use tax rate tables.
Ensure the accuracy of the tax calendar for compliance and accurate tax filing due dates.
Review and approve vendor inquiries concerning sales tax exemption certificates.
Reconcile tax accounts in general ledger as required.
Prepare unclaimed property returns in a multistate environment.
Assist in the preparation of the fixed asset tax packages.
Maintain and update percentage depletion schedules to ensure accuracy.
Support process improvements to improve operating efficiency.
Implement policies, procedures and controls identified by department management.
Assist with special projects as assigned department management.

Requirements MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in Accounting or related field from four-year college or university; or a minimum of three years of tax accounting experience; or equivalent combination of education and business experience.
CPA preferred but not required.
Minimum of three (3) years of functional experience in Tax, Accounting or Finance.
Demonstrated leadership and problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated ability to utilize tax research software.
Excellent computer skills (MS Office, Essbase) and knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and JD Edwards/Oracle/SAP a plus.
