JOB TITLE: Medical Communications Writer DEPT: Medical Information REPORTS TO: Sr. Medical Information Specialist

SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Assists in the development and maintenance of medical information resource documents (including written and verbal responses) regarding Company products that summarize pertinent clinical information from multiple sources in an accurate and concise manner.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS REQUIRED FOR JOB 1. Analyzes, synthesizes and incorporates new and relevant medical literature into existing resource documents as needed or at least on a biennial basis. These documents include; a. Organizational Customer/Managed Care Group Dossiers and Formulary Kits- these documents provide an extensive review of the efficacy and safety data and pharmacoeconomic data for the medication in question to facilitate a formulary review b. General Summaries- these documents contain an overview of the product c. Standard Response Letters- these documents provide information in a written form for frequently asked questions d. Frequently Asked Questions Scripts- these documents provide verbal information in the form of a script for frequently asked questions 2. Composes new documents, such as those listed above, as needed for marketed products and products in development; 3. Maintains documentation files for existing resources and develops documentation files for new resources; 4. Works with Medical Information Coordinator to upload and maintain current documents in the medical information database; 5. Keywords, reviews and flags for discussion current literature available pertaining to Company products, competitors and corresponding disease-states;
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Education: Minimum of a Bachelor's of Science degree in an allied healthcare field (Nursing or Pharmacy). Candidates with advanced degrees such as Doctorate of Pharmacy (PharmD) or PhD are preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years professional and writing experience in Medical Information / Medical Communications (or equivalent) within the pharmaceutical or biotech industry.
Complexity: Must have strong proficiency in medical writing and communication. Must have excellent organizational and planning skills, be detail oriented and have familiarity with PC based applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint. Individual should also have experience in performing medical database searches (via Medline, Embase, IPA, etc). Individual should be a self-starter that's highly motivated, that can handle multiple-tasks in a timely fashion.

Mental/Physical Requirements:
Fast paced office environment handling multiple demands. Must be able to exercise appropriate medical judgment as necessary. Requires a high level of initiative and independence. Excellent written, oral communication, organizational and planning skills required. Requires ability to use a personal computer for extended periods of time.
Additional Requirements:
Work hours may include meetings schedule outside of normal working hours. Demands during peak times may require work hours outside of normal working hours.
