Job Requirements
Title: System Architect

Summary: Leads efforts around core technical architecture, application architecture, and development best practices to create a solid foundation for enterprise software application implementation.

Relationships:

Internal - Reporting to Director- System Architecture. Contact is daily via written and oral communications to provide updates on projects, estimates, completion dates on tasks, ask questions and receive necessary guidance.

Interacts closely with senior IT management, software development, business analysts, network administrators, and internal colleagues as needed.

External - Interacts as needed with software suppliers and consulting organizations.

Business Impact: Sets technical direction for the enterprise.

Responsibilities:

Architecture
  • Develop, maintain, and promote the Access Group Enterprise Architecture through creation/maintenance of technical diagrams, development and review of technical specifications, evaluation of 3rd party software products, as well as presentations to various audiences including senior IT and company management.

  • Analyze user and technical specifications from an application and core technical architecture perspective.

  • Identify, design, prepare specifications, and develop reference implementations of re-usable frameworks and common components. Design responsibilities include logical and physical design, security, data integration, configuration of systems, and may include network infrastructure and performance tuning/capacity planning across end-to-end architectures. Individual will lead technical and application architecture.

  • Lead the effort in 3rd party package evaluations, and vendor evaluations.

  • Develop reference implementations and prototypes using Microsoft .NET technologies.

  • Provide mentoring and guidance to developers.

  • Ensure the compatibility of all applications with the technical infrastructure. Review technical documents to ensure consistency, accuracy, and compliance with enterprise direction.

  • Provide reliable estimates for tasks and activities under his/her control. In addition should be able to provide reliable estimates for others on the team.

  • Proactively monitors the performance of assigned application software and makes approved changes to improve operating efficiency and effectiveness of assigned applications. Takes appropriate risks that lead to improved work practices.

    Research and Development

  • Stays on the cutting edge with the latest trends in information technology. Reads appropriate technical journals, attends appropriate conferences and seminars, and participates in appropriate professional associations.

  • Leads the effort in the introduction of new technology, and will require a strong ability to distill and quantify technical issues to prepare recommendations to management and technical peers. After selection of new technology complete high level design and implementation planning.

  • Work with enterprise initiative groups to provide input into the potential value and applicability of new technologies.

  • Provide insight and guidance related to software development methodology and best practices.

  • Provide leadership in relation to the software development methodology for Access Group.

  • Establish, implement, and enforce standard development policies and procedures including, but not limited to, source control, code walkthroughs, unit and integration testing, disaster recovery, segregation of duties and other software development best practices.

  • Coordinates efforts with other IT departments and users.
  • Knowledge of project management methods
  • May supervise work teams on a project level.

    Job Requirements
  • Education - College graduate with Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related field with concentration in Information Systems/Sciences is required.
  • Knowledge and Experience
  • Deep experience (7+ years) in an application architecture based on ASP.net, XML, C#, Active Directory, Message Queuing, Windows 2000/2003/IIs, SQL Server 2005 in a .Net 2.0 Architecture and framework.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop, maintain and promote Access Group Enterprise Architecture through creation/maintenance of technical diagrams, development and review of technical specifications, evaluation of 3rd party software products and presentation to senior IT management and corporate executives.
  • Deep experience in analyzing and approving user and technical specs. from an application and core technical perspective.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, design, and prepare specifications and develop reference implementations of reusable frameworks and common components.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical application architecture including logical and physical design, security, data integration, systems configuration and may include network infrastructure and performance tuning/capacity planning.
  • Experience in evaluating, selecting and integrating 3rd party software.
  • Proponent of Development and Project Methodologies and Best Practices.
  • Knowledge of Service Oriented Architecture.
  • Certification in Microsoft technologies preferred.
  • Experience with Oracle and DB2 preferred.

  • A self-motivator that plans and manages time well; ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects concurrently.

  • Excellent oral and written communications, as well as presentation skills are required.

  • Computer Proficiency: Adept at using computer office management tools-word processing, electronic mail, scheduling, spreadsheet, project management software, etc. as an integral part of day to day activity.

  • Working Conditions
  • Some travel - 5 to 10% is required at various times during the year.
  • Overtime is required on a routine basis to fulfill job expectations.
