The Quality Management department of UMMC offers unique opportunities for cross departmental collaboration, performance improvement and quality management. Our team members are an integral part of the clinical team working together to improve practice and performance based on data and evidence. As a team, we are dedicated to providing the best support to our clinical teams in our quest for regulatory compliance, patient safety and best practice implementation. The Quality Management Department is part of the Division of Clinical Effectiveness, which is the quality arm of the Medical Center.We are seeking an energetic nursing professional who is dedicated to quality and safety to join our department in the role of Quality Improvement Coordinator QIC . Core responsibilities include:� Plans, organizes and directs departmental quality improvement activities. � Assesses and analyzes important aspects of care for specific patient populations and identifies areas for improvement� Develops strategies and action plans to correct areas requiring improvement� Facilitates multidisciplinary teams to achieve improved quality care� Collects quality data such as unplanned readmissions, mortalities, unplanned returns to the OR� Provides consultation to ancillary support and clinical departments within the Medical center� Staffs organization wide quality improvement committees and participates on process improvement teams.QUALIFICATIONS: 1.A baccalaureate degree from an accredited School of Nursing, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is required. Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maryland is required.2.A minimum of three years of professional experience performing utilization review/quality management activities, or equivalent, is required.3.Knowledge of state and federal regulations, and JCAHO standards and practices for acute care hospitals is required. Knowledge of Departmental of Health and Mental Hygiene DHMH for state licensure and Medical conditions of participation. Knowledge of quality improvement and risk management is required. Familiarity with physician practice standards, and legal and ethical practices4.Knowledge of the ICD-9 coding process.5.Ability to learn facilitation of clinical quality improvement and the problem-solving process in a clinical setting. Ability to learn quality improvement tools and methodology.6.Ability to assess utilization and quality management problems, recommend solutions, and resolve issues in a timely, efficient and effective manner.7.Highly effective verbal and written communication skills are necessary to work with medical, nursing staff and external review agencies in monitoring and evaluating the quality of patient care.CB
