We are currently seeking a Data Center Operations Shift Leader II to join our newest data center location in Chicago, IL. The Data Center Operations Shift Leader will be responsible for the following:
- The Data Center Shift Leader responsible for managing a small team building and maintaining custom ordered servers.
- The Leader works closely with the Data Center Operations Manager and communicates any ongoing issues in the Data Center.
- The Leader also works closely with other Shift Leaders to communicate the status of ongoing activities.
- Works with other departments in the Data Center in order to lead small to medium projects from beginning to end.
- Maintain and promote a positive attitude and work environment by leading by example.
- Monitor, repair upgrade and downgrade servers.
- Monitor all systems and report as appropriate.
- Routine up keeping and cleaning.
- Manages schedules to ensure adequate staffing to meet business needs.
- Efficiently runs a shift of DC Ops techs on day to day operations.
- Delegate’s workload to DC Ops Techs. Train DC Ops Techs on policy, structure and process flow.
- Prepares and delivers performance reviews with DC Ops Techs.
- With Management approval, hires, terminates and promotes DC Ops Techs along with interviewing potential DC Ops techs.
Requirements
The most competitive candidate will have the following:
- Minimum HS degree or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 year experience building and repairing PCs and Servers.
- Minimum of 6 months experience in a customer service oriented position preferred.
- Must exhibit a fanatical customer service attitude.
- Must have all certifications that are required of a DC Operations technician level I and II.
- Must exhibit excellent communications skills, both written and oral.
- 9 months of Management/Leadership experience required.
- Must be able to lead a small to medium size project from beginning to end.
- Must have an overall understanding of how the Data Center operates, including Inventory, DC Engineering, and Backbone.
- Must have a proactive attitude improving their team and be a self starter.
- Due to the nature of the position, must be able to lift 50 lbs. over head.
- Due to the 24x7 operations of the facility, must be able to work a flexible work schedule, may include nights, weekends, holidays, etc.
- Ability to manage a team that consists of a minimum of 4 or more Data Center Operations Technicians.
- Operates under minimal to moderate supervision.
- Advanced knowledge of PC and Server hardware.
- Advanced knowledge of Window/Unix operating systems.
- Build, upgrade, and configure custom ordered servers from scratch spanning several different platforms and configurations.
- Advanced troubleshooting of all aspects of operating systems and hardware.
