This full-time contract position is responsible for quality control reviews of first-run proofs and print samples. As needed, this position also is responsible for processing reprint requests, for quality control reviews of reprint proofs and print samples or other materials, and for coordinating corrigenda edits through the Electronic Production group in a timely fashion. The contractor is responsible for delegating work to freelance or temporary workers as needed to maintain required turnaround times and oversees the quality of their work in the completion of their task responsibilities.
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Editorial Skills and Quality Control: Monitors work for accuracy and quality. Verifies accurate transfer of old material to new. Checks materials for spelling, typos, punctuation, capitalization, grammar, and other language mechanics, for proper project-specific publication style, formatting, and layout, and for consistency. Checks specifications for proofs and print samples.
Project and Resource Management: Effectively plans, implements, and delivers a project while meeting expected standards within appropriate time frames and troubleshoots problems. Helps determine strategy for producing deliverables, helping coordinate resource management, set priorities, and negotiate scope or schedule changes. Is responsible for adhering to project schedules and budgets and risk mitigation and for project tracking, communication, and training.
Communication Skills: Effectively uses written and oral communication skills; builds collaborative relationships and partners seamlessly, effectively, and creatively. Is responsible for status and risk escalation reporting, reporting on scope changes and risk evaluation, and messaging around process documentation and implementation.
SKILLS/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED
Excellent editing, proofreading, organizational, and communication skills
Ability to balance multiple projects at once and meet tight deadlines
Strong project management, prioritization, problem-solving, risk management, and team-building skills
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe products
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION
Required:
� Bachelor�s degree
� At least 5 years of proofreading and editing experience
� At least 2 years of project management experience or demonstrated ability to manage projects from start to finish
� Knowledge of publishing processes
Preferred:
� At least 7 years of proofreading and editing experience, including electronic editing and PDF markup
� At least 4 years of project management experience
� Thorough knowledge of publishing processes
� Experience in educational or assessment publishing
� Extensive experience overseeing publishing projects
