Under the supervision of the Non-Invasive Lab Manager, performs the following duties: Performs echo-Doppler studies in the lab, at multiple satellite clinics and at the bedside; and performs some EKG's and Holter monitor hook-ups in the lab and at multiple satellite clinics. Accurately records test results. Assists staff physicians performing transesophageal, transthoracic or fetal echo's as needed. Assists the staff physicians and fellows in research projects and data entry as required. Teaches theory, instrumentation and interpretation to sonographers, fellows and visitors. Attends meetings to support commitment to continual educational growth and awareness. Interacts with ultrasound vendors to evaluate new company products. Performs minor maintenance of equipment and contacts vendors when problems arise. Ensures that assigned lab is clean and stocked for the next day. Responsible for restocking and ordering of supplies. Demonstrates progress towards ARDMS certification and maintains active status. Contributes to development of section standard operating procedures.

Demonstrated knowledge of m-mode, 2D and Doppler calculations, cardiac hemodynamics, and normal and complex cardiac anatomy. Graduate of a cardiac ultrasound program (minimum of 18 month program); and/or two years full-time pediatric echo experience. Current CPR certification. New hires must obtain RDCS in pediatric echo from the ARDMS (American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers) within two years of hire date. Ability to push and maneuver 500-pound equipment and motor coordination to operate equipment. A high degree of dexterity to produce materials on a PC, normal or corrected vision to normal range, extensive sitting and frequent walking, occasional lifting or carrying 5 to 15 pounds. Must have reliable, independent transportation.
