TRIBUNE is America’s largest employee-owned media company, operating businesses in publishing, interactive and broadcasting in several states across the United States. TRIBUNE is seeking a motivated and energetic person to serve as the hands-on manager of the UNIX Administration team.
The team consists of 11 administrators, some of whom are located in remote offices across the nation. The role of the UNIX Administration team is to build, manage, and support the UNIX servers for Tribune and all its subsidiary companies. There are over 1,000 UNIX servers in some 12 data centers across the US.
Position Responsibilities:
Manage the UNIX administration teamPlan goals and direction for the teamEnsure data availabilityAnalyze and report on system performance and capacityCreate training and development plansManage resource allocations to projectsManage project requirementsEvaluate team personnel for hire/performance management decisionsManage to a budgetWork with project managers and application staff to define and fulfill requirementsManage SAN environment (prefer EMC and NetApp)Manage remote and local personnelManage remote staffed and unstaffed data centers24x7 support escalationSome travel
Position Requirements:
2 – 3 years in Management, leading a team of 3 or more peopleManaged large scale enterprise environments (1000+ servers)Administration in a Solaris and/or Linux Environment (AIX a plus)Clustering software (Veritas, Sun Cluster)Administration and creation of virtual environments (VMWare, Xen, Solaris Zones)Migrating from one platform to anotherUnderstanding of multiple database technologiesUnderstanding of application servers (Apache, Tomcat, Java servers, etc)Familiar with Sarbanes/Oxley and PCI complianceAble to adapt quickly to changing environmentAbility and willingness to mentor staffSystem design/architectureManaged an interactive/internet environmentKeeping abreast of current technologiesAbility to communicate team activities to upper managementSystem tuningFamiliar and able to work with Microsoft Suite of tools including ProjectAbility to speak and present to a group, including staff and upper management
