    Job Requirements



    EDUCATION: An Associate degree or at least 60 semester hours of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university INCLUDING successful completion of a CAHEA/NAACLS accredited MLT program and courses in biology and chemistry OR satisfy any of the other acceptable routes to gain certification as a MLT (ASCP) or CLT (NCA) is required.

    EXPERIENCE: Two years previous experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician in a clinical laboratory setting is preferred.

    LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: Certification as MLT (ASCP) or CLT (NCA) is preferred. Certification eligibility
    is required. A certificate of completion is required of Military Laboratory Training.

    EQUIPMENT/SKILLS: Routinely operates and works with laboratory analyzers and instruments, centrifuges, microscopes, pipettes, balances, mixers and rotators and other Laboratory equipment. Must be able to operate, identify problems and perform minor repairs and maintenance functions. Must be able to perform pipetting techniques and to perform both venipuncture and capillary techniques of phlebotomy. Must have good eye-hand coordination and be able to demonstrate a consistently high degree of accuracy in accomplishment of all routine and complicated Laboratory procedures. All work is integrated with use of the Laboratory Information System.

    WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Works in a well-ventilated, air-conditioned, clean and modern laboratory setting. May be subjected to odors from chemicals and specimens and will be exposed to an environment of possible infectious materials. Intermittently sits, walks, stands throughout the day with some reaching and stooping. May carry or move light equipment or materials.

    KNOWLEDGE/MENTAL APPLICATION: Must know principles involved in Laboratory procedures and mathematical calculations; must know how to operate equipment and instrumentation involved in procedures; must be able to make minor maintenance adjustments or repairs; must be able to effectively utilize the Laboratory Information System. Must be familiar with Laboratory and Hospital rules, regulations, layout and facilities. Must have broad knowledge of Laboratory principles and normal values of patient results. Must be able to instill confidence in patients, physicians, co-workers, and supervisors. Must be oriented toward excellent customer service.

    OTHER: Must also successfully complete the pre-employment/post job offer health screening examination and the annual tb screening, each year thereafter as an employee.
