Position Description:
Morgan Stanley Global Wealth Management Group (GWMG) provides a range of wealth management products and services for affluent individuals, businesses and institutions. These services include brokerage and investment advisory, financial and wealth planning, credit and lending, cash management, annuities and insurance, retirement and trust. The Banking & Lending Group within GWMG is seeking high potential bankers to launch a tailored lending group serving high net worth clients.
Position Summary

  • Pre-screen appropriate transactions and communicate with Credit Risk, Underwriting, Sales and/or Financial Advisor.
  • Facilitate meeting budgeted loan volume goals through efficient and timely processing of loan requests. Develop sales strategies to build and maintain adequate pipeline. Participate in ongoing pipeline meetings.
  • Interview prospects & clients in joint meetings with Financial Advisors. Gather and evaluate appropriate financial and non-financial information to assess viability/feasibility and creditworthiness of transaction and sponsor.
  • Prepare deal summary memos and term sheets. Present deal recommendations to Risk team to secure approvals for issuance of proposal letters. Produce high quality credit memoranda clearly outlining transaction, purpose, strengths, risks and mitigants. Make clear, concise and convincing presentations to Senior Management and Risk tem based on acceptable level of due diligence, acceptable level of preparation and appropriate level of knowledge of the transaction.
  • Present proposal letters to client with Financial Advisor. Explain rationale. Negotiate terms of proposal with client.
  • Develop and negotiate structuring recommendations in partnership with the Underwriting team and within context of firm’s credit policy and philosophy.
  • Manage expectations through active communication with Origination Team, FA and/or Sales Coverage.
  • Provide for complete and timely hand-off of transactions to Underwriting team after client acceptance of Letter of Interest.
  • Assist the Financial Advisor and the Underwriting team with negotiating and closing process as necessary.
  • Extend training and sales support, as needed through ongoing interactions with business/sales/financial advisors.
  • Attend branch and complex field meetings to introduce advisors to Tailored Lending product solutions.
  • Understand competitive environment (pricing, structure, process) and communicate to sales, underwriting and Risk teams.

    Skills Required:
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Minimum 7-10 years experience in private banking or commercial banking in lending origination and credit analysis
  • Investment/Commercial Real Estate and Securities Based Lending experience preferred.
  • Formal commercial credit training required
  • Maintain poise and presence coupled with exceptional interpersonal skills to build relationships with sophisticated high net worth clients and their advisors.
  • Demonstrate creativity and intelligent solutions in structuring sophisticated client transactions.
  • Balance revenue expectations with risk requirements of firm to ensure client and firm’s interests are met.
  • Ability to tactfully and professionally decline transactions while maintain FA and client relationships.
  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills and presentation skills
  • Detail orientation with exceptional analytical skills
  • Significant accounting and finance knowledge
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage Financial Advisor and client expectations
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Good collaboration skills in a team-oriented environment
  • Travel may be required
